- Do you actually know yourself? In this episode, Michele Wang and Sarah Walton put that question to the test. We googled "how do you know yourself" and got a list of ten self-discovery questions — so we picked one and answered it on the spot: what are the five words you'd use to describe yourself, without mentioning your job, your family, or where you live? It sounds simple until you try it. What follows is a funny, surprisingly revealing conversation about identity, self-awareness, and who we are underneath all the labels. Grab a pen and play along — your five words might surprise you.

In this episode, Michele Wang and Sarah Walton dig into why we feel disconnected, whether it's actually normal (spoiler: it's more common than you think), and what we can do to feel connected again. From social burnout and surface-level friendships to going through the motions on autopilot, we talk honestly about loneliness, isolation, and the small shifts that help you reconnect with people and with yourself. If you've been feeling off lately and can't explain why, this one's for you.

In this episode of Talk Sh*t and Laugh, Michele unpacks her recent discovery of the term "grey rocking" — the practice of making yourself deliberately flat, boring, and unreadable.
You've probably heard it recommended as a tactic for dealing with narcissists and difficult people, but Michele's realization was different: she'd been grey rocking her entire life, unconsciously, long before she had a word for it. Sarah's story is the mirror opposite — a lifetime of entertaining, performing, and betraying her own needs to keep everyone else comfortable.
Two completely different survival strategies, one shared cost: losing yourself in the process. We get into where these masks come from, the difference between grey rocking as a deliberate boundary and grey rocking as a default setting, and what it takes to start taking them off.

In this episode, we get into how "behind" changes shape in midlife — it's less about measuring yourself against other people and more about that quiet, nagging math you do against the clock. The dreams still on the shelf. The stuff you keep saying you'll get to. The weird pressure of "if not now, when?"
No breakthroughs. No 5-step frameworks. Just two friends of 25+ years talking sh*t about a feeling we couldn't stop thinking about — and laughing anyway.

About Talk Shit and Laugh
We're Sarah Walton and Michele Wang, two 50-something women who've been friends for over 25 years—and all we really want to do is talk some sh*t and laugh our asses off. Not everything has to be "a breakthrough" or "next-level" or "the 5-step path to becoming your best self."
We promise you: no important lessons will be taught and no deep dives will be taken.
We're officially overwhelmed and drowning with all the self-help, get-better information out there and frankly we're at full capacity.
We just want to hang out and we want nothing more than for you to join us.
So welcome to Talk Shit and Laugh (TSAL)—a weekly podcast for women, where two lifelong friends, talk about all the random sh*t rolling around in their heads.
We're tired of pretending we're fine, sick of fixing ourselves, and deeply craving something real.
We promise:
No important lessons will be taught
No gratuitous self-help
Just wildly honest conversations about the things keeping us up at night... or making us snort-laugh.
We talk friendship, aging, health, relationships, reinvention, midlife identity crises (plural), and the deeply underrated power of laughing your damn face off—even when the topics are heavy.
We won't always know what we're talking about next. But that's kind of the magic. It's real, it's heartfelt, and it's unfiltered—like the group chat you actually want to be in.
Whether you're cooking, commuting, or hiding in your bathroom (or pantry) for a few minutes of peace—TSAL is here to remind you that you're not alone—and you're definitely not done.
Subscribe now, pour yourself something fabulous, and join this community to talk sh*t and laugh.
Welcome. We're so freaking glad you're here.
