Does a strong family history mean that it is inevitable that someone will develop dementia?No. Not only are these complex conditions where genes are just one component, but international studies like the Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER) give us reasons to be optimistic about the power of lifestyle interventions on dementia risk.
