The Church of Eleven22

What does the way you handle money reveal about your heart? In Matthew 6, Jesus teaches that we cannot serve both God and money. The things of this world promise us security and satisfaction, but only Jesus can truly provide both.

In week two of Neighbors to Nations, Pastor Joby Martin challenges us to examine where we're placing our trust, what we're treasuring, and who really comes first in our lives. Biblical generosity isn't just about money. It's about trusting God, surrendering our hearts, and responding to His generosity by bringing Him our first and best.

As we continue kickoff our two-year discipleship journey, we're asking God one question: What is my role in Your Great Commission through my giving, growing, and going?

What is God's purpose for your life?

In Matthew 28:16–20, Jesus gives His followers a clear command: go and make disciples of all nations. The Great Commission is not just a calling for pastors or missionaries. It is the mission of every follower of Jesus Christ.

As we conclude the Gospel of Matthew, Pastor Joby Martin challenges us to examine whether we are truly followers of Jesus or simply fans of Him. Being a disciple means more than knowing Scripture or attending church. It requires surrendering to the authority of Jesus, walking in obedience and making disciples who make disciples.

Through Neighbors to Nations, a two-year discipleship journey at The Church of Eleven22, we are reminded that God has blessed us to be a blessing to others. Whether in our neighborhoods or across the world, we all have a role to play in making Jesus known.

We cannot do everything, but everyone is called to do something.

The resurrection of Jesus changes everything.

In Matthew 27–28, we witness the burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the greatest victory in human history. From the empty tomb to the eyewitness accounts of Mary Magdalene and the Roman guards, we see that knowing the truth about Jesus is not the same as surrendering our lives to Him.

Through the contrasting responses to the resurrection, we are reminded that Jesus did not come simply to make us better people, but to make us new creations. While some chose to protect their earthly positions and possessions, Mary responded with worship and surrender. The same invitation remains for us today: to leave behind our old lives and follow the risen Savior.

The empty tomb is proof that Jesus is who He says He is and that His promises can be trusted. Because He conquered sin and death, no one is too far gone to experience forgiveness, freedom and new life in Christ.

Why did Jesus have to die on the cross?

In Matthew 26–27, we witness the trial, suffering and crucifixion of Jesus, the most pivotal moment in human history. From Peter's denial and Judas' betrayal to Pilate's decision to please the crowd, we see the consequences of sin and the cost of surrendering to Christ.

Through the release of Barabbas, we see a picture of the gospel: the guilty are set free while the innocent takes their place. Jesus willingly endured the cross to pay the debt we could never pay ourselves. Because God is just, sin must be paid for. Because God is love, He made the payment on our behalf.

The cross is the ultimate demonstration of God's justice, love and grace. Through the finished work of Jesus, we are offered forgiveness, freedom and eternal life. The question is no longer whether Jesus is worth following, but what will you do with Jesus who is called Christ?

When Jesus was arrested, four different responses were on display: surrender, misguided obedience, betrayal and outright rejection.

In this message from Matthew 26, Pastor Joby walks through the arrest of Jesus and the lives of Jesus, Peter, Judas and the soldiers. Each one forces us to ask the same question: which chair are we sitting in?

Jesus wasn’t captured because He lost control. He willingly surrendered to the Father’s will and took another step toward the cross so that anyone who puts their faith in Him can go from death to life.
