  • Episode 655: Molly Huddle on Postpartum Running, Every Woman’s Marathon, and What Comes Next
Today I am talking with two-time Olympian and Saucony athlete Molly Huddle, who just ran the Every Woman’s Marathon six months postpartum with her second baby. Molly used the race as a long training run and shares what it felt like to approach the marathon in a more relaxed, flexible way than she has in the past while still respecting how hard 26.2 miles feels at any pace. We get into how life looks right now with two young daughters, how she and her husband are tag-teaming work and parenting, and what it has been like to train and race while breastfeeding. Molly explains why she chose this marathon as a fundraising opportunity for For All Mothers+, how she approached the effort on the day, and what she learned about her current fitness and recovery. Molly also talks about where she is with professional running at age 41, her hope to qualify for another Olympic Marathon Trials, and what it means to her to compete in a “part-time” or “semi-retired” way while she leans into coaching, writing, and parenting. We talk about identity shifts in motherhood, the invisible work that goes into raising kids, and how to stay engaged with the sport even when the goals and timelines look different than they did in your twenties. Finally, Molly shares more about the new pregnancy and postpartum running book she is co-writing, the research she is excited about, and her thoughts on aging, body image, and what it really means to let running “light you up,” whatever season of life you are in. Topics Discussed: Molly’s decision to run the Every Woman’s Marathon six months postpartum Using a marathon as a long training run instead of an all-out effort Balancing breastfeeding, travel, and race-day logistics with a baby and a toddler Fundraising and partnering with For All Mothers+ at the race How the Every Woman’s Marathon creates an unintimidating, women-centered race experience Postpartum training, injury history, and choosing a more cautious path back Shifting identity from full-time pro runner to part-time competitor, coach, and writer Motherhood, invisible labor, and how priorities around work and running change Body image, aging, and pressure around appearance and performance The new pregnancy and postpartum running book and current women’s health research Support Our Sponsors: Amazfit Smartwatches – A wellness and recovery brand offering targeted supplements designed to support runners with energy, strength, and sleep. • Episode 654: Sophie King; 2:34 Marathoner On Racing Through Setbacks, Big Dreams, and Finding Her Spark Again
Today’s episode comes to you from my time at the Allianz Richmond Marathon weekend. This was my third year serving as race emcee in Richmond, and once again I left feeling deeply moved by the stories, resilience, and joy I witnessed at the finish line. I watched first-time marathoners cross with disbelief in their eyes, couples holding hands as they finished together, runners pushing through pain, and others celebrating huge personal victories. There is a kind of gratitude at the end of a marathon that you just cannot replicate anywhere else, and Richmond always reminds me why I love this experience so much. Today’s conversation is a special live recording from that weekend, where I sat down with Sophie King and Trevor Spencer. Trevor is one of the co-hosts of the Marathon Training Academy podcast, and Sophie King is a professional runner based in Richmond with an incredibly compelling story. Sophie made her marathon debut right here in Richmond in 2021 and later ran a 2:34 at CIM in 2023. She was on track for big things before suffering a torn plantar fascia that ultimately kept her from competing at the Olympic Trials, but what struck me most about this conversation is her perspective, her honesty, and her belief that her best years are still ahead of her. Sophie comes from a swimming background and only transitioned fully to running in recent years, which makes her rise in the sport even more impressive. She speaks openly about setbacks, rebuilding confidence after injury, learning to trust her body again, and continuing to chase big goals despite the detours. There is a calm strength to the way she talks about her journey, and I loved hearing her articulate not only her ambitions but her deep gratitude for the process as well. This was one of those conversations that felt too meaningful not to share publicly. Her story, her mindset, and her vulnerability deserve to be heard, and I’m so excited for you to listen. • Episode 653: CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon Recap with Ally Brettnacher and Emily Infeld
Hey friends, welcome to I’ll Have Another with Lindsey Hein. If you ran the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon, Half Marathon, or 5K this past weekend, congratulations. It was incredible to see so many familiar faces out there, and it was an honor to be the race emcee again this year. Between the energy at the start and the emotion at the finish line, this race really showed up — including a huge three-minute drop in the men’s marathon course record and a long list of Olympic Trials qualifiers. I wanted to break it all down with two people who experienced the weekend right alongside me. My friend Ally Brettnacher is here — she’s the host of Finish Lines & Milestones, part of the Sandyboy Productions network, and she always brings such a fun perspective from the everyday runner community. Emily Infeld also joins us. She was the guest of honor at Monumental this year — she helped start the race, she handed out medals at the finish line, she sat down for an interview at the expo, and she joined me for our live podcast at the post-race celebration. Emily barely needs an introduction, but here’s a quick one: she’s an Olympian, a US national champion, a five-time track world finalist, and she won the 10,000m national title this summer after ten years filled with surgeries, setbacks, comebacks, and breakthroughs. She’s sponsored by Brooks Running. Brooks partnered with us through Athletic Annex for the weekend, which was really special since Emily is a Brooks athlete. My relationship with Athletic Annex goes back more than a decade — I helped them with social media and events long before I started hosting live podcasts, and they’ve supported every single event I’ve brought to Indianapolis since. Every time I’m back home for a shakeout run, a live show, or anything related to the Monumental, they’re right there with me. This year we hosted our biggest post-race party yet, and I’ll be honest — I was nervous nobody would buy tickets. I wanted it to be an elevated event, with great food, drinks, a killer goodie bag, and a chance for everyone to actually celebrate their race. We ended up selling out and even added extra tickets at the door. One of the biggest hits was the Indy poster Ally designed — inspired by iconic race posters at major marathons — where everyone could stencil in their finishing time. It was so fun watching people make their own little Monumental keepsake. Our vision is to make this weekend feel a little more like the big-city marathon experience: a Friday shakeout run, community events, and a post-race celebration every year moving forward. One thing I’m especially proud of is that we were able to donate $500 from the event back to the Monumental Kids Movement — a school-based running and wellness program. Beyond Monumental does such meaningful work with kids year after year, and I’m glad we could give back to that mission. Huge thanks to everyone who came to the race, the expo, the live show, and the party — it meant so much. If you enjoyed this episode or were part of the weekend, a quick rating and review goes a long way. And if you’re already planning on Monumental 2026 — and I know some of you type-A runners are — make sure you’re in town for the Friday shakeout and the post-race party. We’re already excited for next year. • Episode 652: Annie Frisbie 5th Place at the 2025 NYC Marathon in 2:24:12
Today I’m joined by Annie Frisbie, who just finished fifth at the 2025 New York City Marathon in 2:24:12 — the second-fastest American performance ever on that course. Annie has quickly become one of the most consistent and exciting marathoners in the U.S., and what I love most about her story is how steady, grounded, and quietly fierce she is. She debuted in New York back in 2021 running 2:26:18 — the fourth-fastest debut by an American woman on that course — and since then she’s continued to chip away, stacking strong, confident races while training with Minnesota Distance Elite. Annie grew up in Wisconsin, ran at Iowa State where she was an All-American in cross country, and now runs professionally for Puma. In this conversation, we break down her NYC race from the inside, including the moments she almost lost confidence, how she’s learning to trust positive self-talk, and what she’s excited about for 2026 and beyond. Annie is thoughtful, humble, and incredibly fun to root for — you’re going to feel so inspired hearing about her process, her mindset, and the way she’s growing into this event. I loved catching up with her so much. Topics we cover NYC race plan, surges, and key course sections Passing Sifan Hassan late and protecting position Solo miles, crowd energy, and managing pain honestly Fueling: UCAN gels (alternating caffeine) and electrolytes Training consistency, hamstring care, and support team Mindset: visualization, mantras, and choosing helpful thoughts Tactical Majors vs time trial courses Post-race recovery, winter training, and 2026 goals Media and links mentioned Book: Let Your Mind Run by Deena Kastor Music: Hans Zimmer; Ramin Djawadi soundtracks; Florence and the Machine (new album) Podcasts: Amy Poehler’s show; The Telepathy Tapes Team/Sponsor: Minnesota Distance Elite; Puma Support Our Sponsors: Amazfit Smartwatches – A wellness and recovery brand offering targeted supplements designed to support runners with energy, strength, and sleep. • Episode 651: The Wellness One – Emily Saul on Race-Day Mindset, Segmenting the Marathon, and Redefining Success
We are back with another Wellness One episode, and today I’m joined by our favorite running sports psychologist, Emily Saul. I’ve admired Emily’s work for years, and several athletes I coach have worked with her and seen real shifts in how they handle racing, training, and life. Emily shares how she came to sports psychology through rowing, coaching, November Project, and counseling, and why she views movement as both classroom and laboratory. We dig into the “helpful vs. unhelpful” frame, flipping perfectionism into process, and building a mental race plan that breaks a marathon into truly manageable chunks. Emily walks through practical tools for race day and how to define success with process and experience goals so your body can do what it is trained to do. I think you’ll feel your nervous system settle a bit just listening, and leave with a plan you can use at whatever race is next on your calendar. Topics discussed: • Emily’s path to sports psychology and why movement is a vehicle for growth• The “helpful vs. unhelpful” reframe for plans, workouts, and expectations• Process goals and experience goals that support performance• Building a mental race plan by chunking time, course sections, and fuel windows• What to do when discomfort shows up early and how to choose your next best action• Keeping attention in the present and letting completed chunks count as wins• Why success is self-defined and how to let running serve your life Media recommended: • Mindfulness by Ellen Langer• The Mindful Body by Ellen Langer• Emily’s site: esaulmovement.com Support Our Sponsors: Eternal Go to eternal.co and book your performance physical today.
