Welcome to Field Notes — shorter Fortean Winds investigations built around a single document, case, study or piece of research we think deserves attention.
For the first Field Note, RamX returns to Project Condign, the massive classified UAP study conducted for the UK's Ministry of Defence using thousands of sighting reports collected over decades.
The report contains an extraordinary sentence: “That UAP exist is indisputable.”
But its conclusions weren't crashed spacecraft or extraterrestrial visitors. The authors instead explored whether many UAP could represent poorly understood atmospheric plasma phenomena—charged formations capable of unusual movement, apparent shape changes and potentially even effects on human perception.
That leads into some of the strangest material in the report: correlations with meteor activity, electromagnetic effects, apparent triangular and cigar-shaped objects, possible neurological effects on witnesses, and speculation about whether some classic encounter experiences could originate in the interaction between unusual electromagnetic environments and the human brain.
RamX also looks at the famously redacted sections of Condign. Newly uncovered material complicates the assumption that those black bars concealed extraordinary discoveries: some apparently hid little more than unverified speculation about rumored classified aircraft.
None of that makes Condign a solved case. The report itself struggled to explain how the proposed plasma phenomena could remain coherent for the durations witnesses sometimes reported.
And that's precisely why it's worth revisiting.
The classified material may be less interesting than the science that wasn't classified at all.

Before recording this episode, RamX sat in on a briefing about a question the UAP community rarely asks:
If disclosure happens, how should you actually tell people?
The Sol Foundation's new disclosure study is using a nationally representative discrete-choice experiment to test how Americans respond to different messengers, evidence, verification methods and disclosure scenarios. The project comes as Sol leadership participates in the government's UAP Science Advisory Council and advocates a phased approach to disclosure. 
Then RamX and Bones return to two physical cases Fortean Winds has followed for years: the Nazca bodies and Colombia's Buga Sphere.
With the Nazca material, some specimens and claims have fallen apart under scrutiny. Others remain more difficult to explain. The episode looks at the independent forensic work, the unusual anatomy attributed to the specimen known as Maria, and the scientific testing that could move the case forward.
Then there's the Buga Sphere.
Claims surrounding the object include seamless construction, unusual internal structures, exotic materials, extreme age and mysterious surface symbols. Some observations deserve further investigation. Others don't survive basic scientific scrutiny—and several of the most dramatic claims still lack the independent laboratory work, documented methodology and chain of custody needed to establish them.
Across disclosure, Nazca and Buga, Fortean Winds keeps arriving at the same wall:
Who actually holds the evidence?
Scans, press conferences, testimony and extraordinary claims all come downstream from access. If physical evidence exists, independent researchers need to be allowed to examine it, replicate the findings and publish the data.
Don't get ahead of the evidence.
But don't stop following it either.

The first episode followed the wealth, ideology and theology of a new technological elite.

Now Fortean Winds follows the money home.
In the final chapter of the Cadre & Cathedral trilogy, RamX and Bones examine the documented financial and political relationships connecting Peter Thiel, JD Vance, Palantir, Próspera, Freedom Cities and the broader network-state ecosystem.
The trail leads through campaign financing, government contracts, political patronage, religious nationalism and parallel attempts to build semi-autonomous jurisdictions both overseas and inside the United States.
Then the investigation takes an unexpected Fortean turn.
Following the intellectual roots of accelerationism leads to Nick Land and the Cybernetic Culture Research Unit—and eventually to Aleister Crowley, whose ideas were explicitly explored by that movement decades before the Dark Enlightenment and network-state projects emerged.
The connection isn't a secret Crowleyan conspiracy, and we don't pretend that it is.
It's stranger than that.
Different people, separated by decades, repeatedly arrive at a remarkably similar structure: concentrated authority, founder rule, acceleration, and a small group empowered to shape the future for everyone else.
Crowley put it rather more bluntly:
“Let my servants be few and secret: they shall rule the many & the known.”
Three episodes. One emerging architecture.
Wealth → Ideology → Territory → Power.

They aren't just talking about replacing institutions anymore. They're building alternatives.
In part two of Fortean Winds' investigation into the Cadre and Cathedral, RamX and Bones follow the network-state movement from Silicon Valley theory into physical territory.
The idea is called “cloud first, land later.”
Build the ideology online. Assemble a wealthy and committed community. Coordinate economically. Acquire territory across existing countries. And eventually seek recognition as something approaching a new state.
This episode traces that idea through Balaji Srinivasan's The Network State, Patri Friedman's Seasteading movement and Pronomos Capital, Honduras' Próspera, Praxis, and the Network School experiment that moved from Malaysia to Kazakhstan after Malaysian regulators revoked its license.
But the deeper the investigation goes, the stranger the project becomes.
Religion isn't merely appearing alongside the network-state movement. Some of its advocates explicitly recognize shared faith and moral commitment as technologies for creating communities strong enough to survive where purely economic relationships fail.
And beneath the promise of escaping governments lies a fundamental contradiction:
Network states still need states.
They need land. Courts. Visas. Property rights. Security. Infrastructure. And ultimately, governments willing to surrender or delegate pieces of their own sovereignty.
What begins as an attempt to exit the nation-state may actually be something more practical:
A search for nations willing to sell themselves in pieces.

Technology becomes entangled with prophecy. Political and economic ideas acquire the language of cosmic struggle.
