The Japanese Grand Prix marked the moment when genuine progrees had been made thanks to Honda...and the excuses become more traditional. Gone are the mind-melting nerve damaging reports...and now just a case of finding power and pace. The biggest mystery in F1 right now is the real motive as to why Max Verstappen feels weary with these Formula 1 regulations for 2026. Sure, his Red Bull RB22 isn't performing well AND he's made his feelings clear about the Formula One ruleset. For years now! The Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix set in motion a new conversation. That the regulations cannot be ignored in their current guise. The crash of Oliver Bearman and the lack of power Franco Colapinto highlighted an issue drivers have brough to the FIA and FOM's attention for MONTHS now. Even Haas' Ayao Komatsu spoke out...and Haas have every reason to like the F1 2026 ruleset.

Even though this year's F1 Japanese Grand Prix was more interesting the 2025 edition, it wasn't a complete success. Despite more overtakes, the regulators saw their 2026 Formula 1 rules suffer the power starving nature of Suzuka...and a big crash. Is it time for the FIA to sit up even more and take note between now and Miami? Meanwhile, Kimi Antonelli secured his second win of his career AND leads the championship for the first time, nine points ahead of Russell. No more senior-junior dynamic in Toto's team? And oh yes, McLaren announced they are back in business with Oscar Piastri.

In a shock exchange, the journalist from Abu Dhabi 2025 which got stuck under Max Verstappen's craw comes back into the headlines. Not through another reductive question...but by just breathing the same air as the F1 driver. In that moment, it set a potential precedent.
