Why Instagram and Facebook are useful, but not a substitute for a real website
How website maintenance becomes part of the artist’s job, not separate from it

    Key topics
In this episode, Valerie and Armin discuss the artist’s dual role as maker and marketer, and why both matter.

Armin describes the pressure many artists feel around saying “I’m an artist” out loud, especially early in their careers.
They compare practical ways to be ready for conversations, including having artwork accessible on a phone or carrying printed postcards.
The conversation covers etiquette at group shows, including why it’s important not to make someone else’s opening about your own promotion.
They discuss clothing for openings, emphasizing comfort, confidence, and dressing in a way that feels authentic rather than staged.
Valerie and Armin stress the value of celebrating solo shows and receptions as milestones, not just obligations.
