Since before my daughter was born, I can remember buying her books. We read to her when she was young, and as she got older, we would take her to the library and bookstores to spark her reading. She carries a book with her everywhere she goes now - to school, to dinner, in the car... anytime she has downtime, she is reading. Want to know how that happened? 149 | The Link Between Dyslexia and ADHD: What Every Parent Should Know
One of the things that I learned early on our dyslexia journey is that dyslexia often co-occurs with other difficulties. In other words, most of the time, dyslexia is not the only struggle for dyslexics. I call these co-occurrences, dyslexic sisters. Sisters may include speech, anxiety disorders, developmental language disorders, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The research estimates that 30% of people with dyslexia are also AD/HD. Both children with dyslexia and AD/HD may be underachieving in school, even though they are often bright and motivated. The goal is to meet their potential. Children with these disorders must be carefully evaluated because treatment for one disorder is different from that for the other. Inaccurate diagnosis can lead to inappropriate intervention and a delay in timely, effective intervention. Early intervention is key for both dyslexia and AD/HD.You Got This!Understanding Your Child's Dyslexia Workshop - Spotify / Apple Podcasts / YouTubeSign up for the DML Weekly NewsletterAll things dyslexia and parenting --> www.dyslexiamomlife.comFree Dyslexia Mom Life Podcast Community --> www.facebook.com/groups/dyslexiamomlifeSupport the show

I have made mistakes, laughed, and cried along my parenting journey with my dyslexic daughter. I spent so much time on internet searches and social media, trying to figure it all out — how to get our daughter tested for dyslexia, where to find the right remediation, what accommodations work for her, when and how to tell her she was dyslexic, and how to protect her self-esteem through it all. Honestly, it took a huge toll on our family — and my sanity! I finally realized that if I was going to keep my sanity and help my daughter thrive in this new dyslexia lifestyle, I had to trust my intuition about what was best for her and our family. I had done all the research, read all the books, and found a way to connect with my daughter, building a strong mother-daughter relationship that would outlive her school years. Of course, I have my fair share of bumps, bruises, and wrong turns along our journey, but one thing is constant - my love for my daughter, and that I can do this (figure out dyslexia and be the best mom to my daughter)! P.S. So can you!I created a framework that was built on simple, proven strategies — small steps I could check off each day, giving me a real sense of progress (instead of endlessly scrolling through Instagram looking for answers). It became a lifestyle that made parenting feel less like a constant chore and more like a meaningful relationship — filled with intention, fun, and laughter again. And now, I’m so ready to share it all with you!If you’re ready for simple, proven strategies to confidently show up for your child with dyslexia, this podcast is for you!Take a deep breath — you’re in the right place.
