Drinking habits as parents, children's books & when your toddler calls you by your first name...
02/09/2026 | 1h 16 mins. This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, happy Wednesday!! We open with a very important announcement: it's REST DAY (Harrison’s rest day lol but maybe all of you could join him), which somehow spirals into a real debate: is "downhill" positive or negative?! (If you're running, downhill is great. If your week is going downhill…? you see the problem.)
Then Jules brings a word from the people: collective effervescence.. the term for that shared-energy magic that happened at Wrigley (and at every Fenway “Sweet Caroline”, and every Coldplay "Fix You”). We're working it into daily (or bi-annual) rotation. Plus Alex reveals her special power: she wakes up in the middle of the night and just KNOWS what time it is (psychic or circadian? The chair delivery prediction says psychic), and we realize we are officially living in the "late 20s" of the century.. which sends us straight into Y2K pandemonium and what our 4-11-year-old brains thought was happening in 1999 hahaha
Then the home front: the kids book gift tip we're stealing forever (find your kid's favorite book and keep copies on hand as gifts.. Going to Sleep on the Farm is out of print but on ThriftBooks for $6!!), the universal truth that when a toddler is awake they are AWAKE, and Tate's new bit: calling Alex.. Alex. She thinks it's hilarious.
Then a segment your comments built: cities have MIDDLE names?! Chicago Marie. Cincinnati Eileen. Atlanta Nicole. We're solidifying Austin Riley.. comment your city's middle name, we need them all. And another follow up from the video game convo: where does drinking after work fall on the scale?! We get into it honestly AND share our rule for drinking as new parents: one parent is ALWAYS the metaphorical DD. Meaning one of us is ALWAYS sober enough to legally drive.. because you're on duty for the kids, and in an emergency you might literally need to drive. Simple, non-negotiable, works.
And in wedding world: 818 Tequila is sponsoring weddings (no contracts, no posting requirements, just vibes.. genius or too far?), and OUR wedding planning continues: it's officially a seated dinner, and Harrison's dream late-night sponsor is DoorDash hahaha
We close with the lightning round of internet topics: Dyson made a $499 TOOTHBRUSH (we started at sticker shock and talked ourselves into it.. if it touches your body twice a day!), gym bros discovered the pink tax, a new app that sends your texts by virtual carrier pigeon (110mph, and a 0.2% chance your message literally dies mid-flight.. we're obsessed), and a closing pep talk: we all need to TOUGHEN UP. A cup of coffee cannot ruin your day!!
Hope everyone is having a great week :-) LOVE YOU GUYS!

So.. we (Alex & Jules) found ourselves in some heat over our video games after kids take from Friday, so we had to get a guy's POV.. and you guys? He may have even HOTTER takes. Turns out Harrison was a GAMER gamer back in the day (18-hour Grand Theft Auto Sundays.. we have questions), but as a dad he has rules: there are more productive ways to decompress, never let it eat family time, and play when everyone's asleep. Then Jules asks the question that will surely put us back in the comments: are video games just Cocomelon for adults?!
But before ALL that: it's officially HYROX race week for the dads (we're heading to DC later this week!) We settle the great seasonal debate: when does summer ACTUALLY end? Alex says Labor Day, Harrison says September 21st because "the sun does not lie." Plus Saturn Return (why your life flips upside down between 26 and 29.. planets, maybe!) and Tinx's 3-articles-a-day challenge. We're in.
On the home front: Tate had her first gymnastics class 🥹 Airplane arms on the balance beam, and the 8:45 AM Saturday slot that gave us sticker shock is now the anchor of our perfect Saturday (gymnastics, brunch, nap). Plus our new birthday math: birthdays are for the PARENTS until the kid turns three.. two per kid, use them wisely lol
Then a real-time rabbit hole: how were popsicles invented?! (Thank you, Frank. And his kids, who named it.) An etiquette Q we need your take on: cars are already at the house party.. knock or walk in? (We have a 30-second rule.) Plus: do we need an interior designer for touch ups?? Austin designers, our DMs are open. And the "focusing illusion": stop drawing massive conclusions from ONE thing in someone's life.
We close with the news corner: Tim Cook's last day as Apple CEO.. $350 billion to $4.7 TRILLION, and the family stock story that still stings. Has AI lost its PR battle in the US? And Jennifer Garner's take we (kind of) loved: never apologize to your kids for working.. thank them for being sweet and patient about it instead 🤍
Hope everyone has a great week :-) LOVE YOU GUYS!

Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices Q&A: Single at 30, child-free weddings & is it ever OK to ask someone if they want kids?
28/08/2026 | 1h 39 mins. This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, happy Friday!! It's a GIRLS episode.. Harrison is in Chicago, so it's Alex & Jules answering YOUR questions. The theme: married with kids vs. single and child-free, and every question in between.
But first, life: Tate learned to cockadoodle doo AND somersault this week (grandma brought a tumbling matt.. Harrison is going to come home to a full show). Then we get into the birthday crying phenomenon (high expectations + "don't plan anything!!" = a recipe lol.. moral of the story: say what you actually want, and a card is the MINIMUM), the Mommy & Me dance class dynamic where the mom vibes matter just as much as the toddler vibes (the water bottle incident.. iykyk), you know you're an adult when.. (Alex has a wrapping paper CLOSET), and your new favorite word: detritus. You will now see it in every book you read forever, you're welcome.
Then the Q&A. You guys sent the most thoughtful questions about opposite seasons of life and we tried to answer from both sides: how to actually show up for friends in a different phase, whether Alex ever misses her pre-kid life, how Jules finds contentment single at 30, and whether it's EVER okay to ask someone if they want kids (short version: let them bring it up!) Plus the etiquette rapid-fire: exclusively breastfed babies at no-kids weddings, declining a good friend's party when you don't want to leave your baby, whether single friends actually want kids' birthday party invites (yes.. if that's where her people are, that's where she wants to be 🥹), and Jules's official baby-holding policy: nothing before four months, she's not doing the head bobbing hahaha
Also in there: the video game rules when you have kids (time-bound it or lose it), our best advice for college girls and post-grads, the words we use sparingly besides "no," and how Alex is juggling podcasting, momming & working out.
And we close with OREO GATE: a mom texted the class asking everyone to stop sending Oreos to school.. and it turns into the best question of the episode: are you preparing the road for the child, or the child for the road? (someone smart said this - not us!!!)
Hope everyone has a great weekend :-) LOVE YOU GUYS!
Ps. P says sorry for coughing !!!!!!!!!!!

26/08/2026 | 1h 13 mins. This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, happy Wednesday!! You guys know we record same-day, which means we get to open with actual breaking news: Meta agreed to a $17 BILLION settlement in the child safety trial. Harrison dusts off his finance-guy trick for understanding any settlement (go straight to the stock price.. what it did tells you everything) and we get into what actually changes for kids: time restrictions and nighttime blockouts. And while we're being all professional and stuff lol, Alex shares how she beat her 2 AM heartburn after Prilosec, Tums AND Pepto all failed. The winner? Baking soda and water. (NOT medical advice.. she literally ate a bag of chips first as a strategy lol)
It's not until after ALL of this that we finally welcome you back to the episode :-) and Alex starts out hot. Backstory: she posted a TikTok about letting Tate wear her helmet and while mommy ALSO wears her helmet (red light mask).. and a comment saying "it's okay to tell her no" racked up over a thousand likes. So you're telling me a thousand people think we should say no to a toddler wearing a HELMET for fun?! Video two was born, the internet responded, and the ratio has spoken 💅 The real convo: we DO say no.. we just save it for safety and the impossible stuff, because a no used all day loses its luster. When Tate hears a real one, she stops in her tracks.
Other things on the home front: we're STILL shopping your Babylist registries AND we seem to be starting a little etiquette corner?? We answered YOUR question about should guests ever do dishes!!
Then it's officially FOOTBALL SEASON!! Our new fantasy twist: every Monday everyone in the crew individually picks a team to win, no picking the same team twice, and the most wins at the end takes home a prize. Plus Harrison makes his case for changing your fandom as an adult, and we give our official bar-vs-stadium ratio (there was immediate agreement, which never happens).
We take a minute for our queen, Dolly Parton 💛🌈 We love how she's being remembered, and the thing we can't get over is her philanthropic legacy.. 1 in 7 kids under 5 in the US gets a book in the mail from Dolly every month. We're excited to make a podcast donation to the Imagination Library in her honor.
We close with the internet section: Gen Z invented SILENT book clubs (you read alone together at a coffee shop until a timer goes off.. we wanted to hate it, we love it), LinkedIn is being used as a dating app and 22% of people have already tried it?! (Harrison's ruling: instant removal from the platform), the Reddit rule for DNFing a book guilt-free, the exact ages you age out of high school shows (25) and college shows (30), and Uber letting parents LIVESTREAM their teen's rides. And a BICKER OF THE WEEK years in the making: Harrison interrupting Alex's sacred workout-drive "banger time" means one thing.. Harrison officially needs his own car.
Hope everyone has a great week :-) LOVE YOU GUYS!

Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices- This week on Two Parents & A Podcast, happy Monday!! The headline: we FINALLY did some wedding planning (live on the pod..) and we think we may have unlocked something?! You guys know we've been kicking this can down the road (2 under 2 - FORGIVE US), but one little scheduling switch changed everything (iykyk) and now we're officially in planning mode (send us your ATX dueling piano wedding reviews!!)
Before all that: the BEST fantasy football punishment we've ever seen (18 holes of golf with strangers.. no clubs, no ball, full commitment to every pretend swing hahaha), Harrison's cooking redemption arc (Alex used to WINCE from across the kitchen.. now he cleans as he goes?!), and an etiquette check from Jules: do you need a hostess gift for a baby shower at someone's house? Plus a question back to Jules: should you serve alcohol at your wedding if YOU don't drink?! (the short answer: it depends).
Then a Babylist It Forward follow up: we bought your gifts!! Thank you for sharing your registries with us, this was genuinely so fun 🤍
And the Bicker of the Week (borrowed from TikTok): is peanut butter sweet or savory?! (Harrison made us asked chat which led to…) The AI corner: AI FOR EVIL (?? lol).. ChatGPT is coming to your iMessages, and we get into whether messages should come with a "sent with ChatGPT" label. And AI FOR GOOD: personalized cancer treatment breakthroughs that genuinely made our jaws drop. Plus THINGS WE DMED EACHOTHER: a magazine made of your saved articles?! (We redesigned the whole product live, you're welcome)
For those who are following along with our little podcast book club: Alex is 120 pages deep into Careless People and has THOUGHTS (kind of not spoiler safe so I guess skip if you just started??). And finally, what's going on at home: a potty training update, the great ice cream night debate (is 2 too young for a scoop?!), Tate officially shutting laptops when it's family time ("no no no no”), and Rocky is OFFICIALLY trying to get in on the action.
Hope everyone has a great week :-) LOVE YOU GUYS!
