Her 20-year-old daughter, Karen, was kidnapped by members of Los Zetas—one of Mexico’s most brutal and violent drug cartels. Despite paying a ransom, Miriam never saw her daughter alive again. Karen’s remains were discovered nearly two years later, buried in a shallow grave. But Miriam didn’t just grieve—she transformed. Fueled by anguish and an unshakable sense of justice, she launched her own investigation, meticulously tracking down her daughter’s killers one by one. Disguising herself, using fake identities, and gathering intelligence like a seasoned detective, she helped locate and bring nearly a dozen cartel members to justice—essentially building cases where law enforcement had failed or refused to act.  Miriam's astounding story remains a searing indictment of government inaction, cartel terror, and the price of speaking truth to power in a country where justice is often buried alongside the victims. • EP119: YouTube Shooting Star
Join our Patreon family for exclusive access to BTS, bonus episodes, a private group chat, first dibs on ticket and merch sales, and more! www.Patreon.com/PsychopediaPod In the quiet hours of June 8, 2017, as employees at Weis Markets in Pennsylvania were preparing to close, an eerie stillness filled the air. Unbeknownst to them, their coworker, 24-year-old YouTuber Randy Stair, coldly barricaded the store’s exits as he prepared for a brutal massacre with chilling determination. Moments later, Randy removed his shotgun and unleashed a horrifying wave of violence, shooting and killing three innocent people before turning the gun on himself. In the days leading up to this absolutely devastating tragedy, Randy broadcasted his dark intentions on his YouTube channel, revealing his twisted plan for destruction and exposing the depths of his pain and inner turmoil. This horrific event is not only about the shocking crime Randy executed, but the years of silent suffering and escalating darkness that drove him to that fateful moment. • EP118: Never Again: UK's Last Woman Hanged
Visit Patreon.com/psychopediapod for exclusive content and join our family of little psychos!  We'd love to have you. Note/Correction: Investigator Slater kept referring to A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story as a Netflix series, but it actually aired on BritBox. She's very sorry. Ruth Ellis was a 28-year-old nightclub hostess and mother who, in 1955, became the last woman to be executed in the United Kingdom. Her crime: the premeditated shooting of her abusive lover, David Blakely, outside a London pub in broad daylight. The trial was swift and the verdict was inevitable: Ruth Ellis was to hang for her crime. Despite mounting public sympathy and clear evidence of sustained physical and emotional abuse, the legal system refused to consider her mental state or the context of her actions. Ruth's execution sparked national outrage and helped ignite a decades-long movement toward the abolition of capital punishment in Britain. Her story remains one of the most haunting examples of how justice can fail those trapped by violence, gender, and a system determined to punish and condemn, rather than understand and help. So, while this is the story of Ruth Ellis, it is, at its core, about so much more. • EP117: Murder, Metal, and Mayhem
Visit Patreon.com/psychopediapod for loads of exclusive content and to join our family of psychos! Trigger warning: This episode discusses difficult topics including suicide, homicide, and other forms of trauma.  Please listen with caution. What comes to mind when you think of "black metal" music? Face paint, screams laced with hate, rage, aggression. Most metalheads might talk a big game about Satan, death, and destruction, but in reality are often mild-mannered accountants or kindergarten teachers who can’t even stand the sight of blood. But what if the darkness wasn’t just for show? What if the chaos, the obsession with death, and the destruction wasn’t a stage persona but a way of life (and death)? This was the grim reality for Mayhem, a Norwegian black metal band formed just outside Oslo in 1984, widely regarded as the pioneers of the Norwegian black metal scene. Their infamy goes far beyond the music they created or the genre they helped define—it’s rooted in the pure, unrelenting chaos, violence, and nihilism they embodied. Onstage, offstage, and in the very depths of their existence, they lived what many would only dare to perform: satanic worship, neo-Nazism, arson, cannibalism, suicide, and murder. As the band name suggests, this case is absolute mayhem. • EP116: Prayed To Death
Visit Patreon.com/psychopediapod for exclusive content and join our family of psychos! Elizabeth Struhs was a bright, beautiful 8-year-old girl whose precious life depended on insulin to manage her diabetes. Tragically, her parents, members of a fringe religious group in Australia called The Saints, followed a strict, literal interpretation of Christianity and the Bible. They rejected modern medicine in favor of prayer, believing it was the only path to healing for Elizabeth. As a result, this vulnerable little girl—unable to advocate for herself—suffered and died in front of the entire congregation. A room full of adults stood silently, eyes closed in prayer, while refusing to provide Elizabeth the one thing that could have saved her life. For The Saints, every moment of existence was meant to be devoted to worshiping God, no matter the cost—even if that cost was the life of an innocent child.
