  • The music in Netflix’s Heartbreak High - with Jemma Burns and Charlie Lempriere
For this episode of Sounds Seen we’re joined by Jemma Burns and Charlie Lempriere of Pulse Points, to speak about their work on the Netflix reboot of the Australian TV series Heartbreak High. Drawing from their storied experience in music, specifically in the Australian scene, Jemma and Charlie have created a soundtrack for the series that reflects back what it means to be a high school kid in Australia - taking influence from around the world but leaning into the dynamism and richness of the Australian music scene across the spectrum - including The Veronicas, DJ Plead, Courtney Barnett and Troye Sivan. We talk about how Australia is having a moment right now (musically and culturally), how music is perhaps THE key tool when trying to resonate with younger generation audiences, and Charlie also explains how he got his start as a music supervisor.

  • The music in Wim Wenders’ Perfect Days - with Milena Fessman
This episode is about the Oscar-nominated film Perfect Days from director Wim Wenders. The film follows the simple, quiet and daily routine of Hirayama, a man in Tokyo who cleans unique toilets designed by architects, dotted throughout the city. The music in this film is central to the film, giving us a glimpse into the unexpressed sides of Hirayama; the person he is, and maybe even the young man he once was. This episode’s guest is Milena Fessman, a veteran music supervisor and radio DJ based in Berlin. She currently hosts her own weekly show for Radio Eins/RBB called ‘Free Falling’ and in 1989 she founded Cinesong. Milena Fessmann teaches music supervision and copyright clearing at DFFB Berlin, KHM and Filmuni Babelsberg and is advisory board member of the World Soundtrack Academy.

With Thibault Deboaisne, music supervisor and founder of boutique agency Sound Division.
