Captured on CCTV, supporters linked to Millwall became involved in a running battle that looked like it had been pulled straight from the darkest days of English football hooliganism.

For decades, the authorities had fought to stamp this culture out. New laws were introduced, stadiums were rebuilt, banning orders were imposed and many of the country’s most notorious firms were dismantled. But had football hooliganism really disappeared—or had it simply moved away from the terraces?
