177: Introducing Deep Cover: The Family Man

    18/05/2026 | 8 mins.
Deep Cover is a true crime show about double lives, from our friends at Pushkin
Industries. Their new season, The Family Man, is a story about how families can deceive each other and the lengths we’ll go to to protect our loved ones. Elise and Marissa grew up in a seemingly normal house in the suburbs of St. Louis, but it was a house built on secrets. There were things their father never told them—like how he really made his money. One night, the police showed up, raided their house, and seized boxes of evidence. Hours later, the sisters turned on the TV and saw something surreal: their father in the middle of a police chase. The local news identified him as “The Boonie Hat Bandit”. The girls were stunned. They struggled to accept the truth: Dad had been living a double life. How long had he been lying to them? What had he done? And who, exactly, was their father? If you want to know how the story ends right now, binge the full season by signing up for a Pushkin+ subscriptions on the Deep Cover show page on Apple Podcasts or at pushkin.fm/plus.

    08/05/2026 | 35 mins.
Content Warning:  love fraud, intimate fraud, financial fraud, gun violence, and robbery.
Tracy Hall is a mother, author, speaker, business marketing expert, and victim of financial and intimate fraud from Australia. After a series of traumatic events and life changes, Tracy found herself unexpectedly single in her early 40’s. Although she had a full life, she sought an activity partner to grow with. That’s when she met Max Tavita, a Bondi Beach businessman with an active lifestyle and a deepening love for Tracy. Over the next year and a half, he would carefully cultivate a relationship that promised to fulfill all of Tracy’s romantic, personal, and even financial dreams. However, it would all come toppling down upon his December 2017 arrest, which brought the realization that Max - whose real name was Hamish - wasn’t who he said he was. Since navigating a long criminal justice process, sharing her story via podcast, book, and beyond, Tracy has made it her mission to bring awareness to the intricacies and stigmas of intimate fraud. The Broken Cycle Media team is immensely grateful for Tracy’s openness, expertise, and advocacy.

Content Warning: suicidal ideation, suicide, neglect, abuse, torture, child abuse, childhood torture, domestic childhood torture, institutionalized abuse, and institutionalized torture.
Ali Davis is a healthcare professional, non-profit founder, and a survivor of alleged childhood torture. It would take her years to come to recognize the weight of all that she navigated, and to be able to name it appropriately. Amidst her healing journey she launched a non-profit foundation called Pretti Graffiti which was established to provide funding for humanitarian aid for survivors of non-war-related childhood torture in the United States. Ali is paving the way for survivors and researchers alike, bringing awareness and prevention as a result of her efforts. The Broken Cycle Media team is so deeply grateful for her sharing her time, energy, expertise, and deeply empathetic views with our audience.
