  • The journey of using a donor egg, with neonatal paediatrician Katharine
In this episode, we are sitting down with Katharine. Katharine is a paediatrician working in private practice specialising in neonatal peads, meaning she cares for babies from 0-2 years old. Katharine is also a mum to two children, and sadly experienced secondary fertility with her second child. After three and a half years of trying and several rounds of IVF, Katharine made the choice to use a donor egg, and go through the IVF process in the USA. Some questions we chatted through: What was the experience like of becoming a mother, whilst being a paediatrician? What was it like working in her field, whilst struggling to fall pregnant herself? What was the process of using a donor egg? This episode is sponsored by Love to Dream, the home of the award-winning Swaddle Up—a patented, game-changing swaddle that allows your baby to sleep in a more natural position with their arms up. As a mum, I have loved using Love to Dream swaddles; they’ve made bedtime so much easier, helping my little one feel secure and held, whilst keeping her warm and snug. Regular testing every four weeks during pregnancy is crucial for monitoring CMV.Tune in for practical tips on reducing risk, such as washing hands after nappy changes, avoiding saliva contact, and not sharing dummies or utensils with infants. Please note that the information provided in this podcast is for educational and entertainment purposes only and is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. • Overcoming isolation in parenting: How to build your village
In today's episode we are sitting down with two incredible women, Ariel and Keshia, both mums of three children and business owners of the newly launched From Day One. On this podcast, and recently in broader society, we are talking a lot more about the village that women need and deserve, that they often don’t have. Women have never been more isolated in their parenting journey and you have both set out to change this - a very ambitious and incredible goal. From Day One facilitates Mother's Groups, Play Dates, events, access to support via specialists and a drop in space for mums to use as a home away from home during the first 12 months post-birth. Here are some of the questions we asked them:How did the idea of From Day one come about? How did you start going about changing the landscape of something so huge but also so impactful? What are the main themes you find in facilitating From Day One?How do you start with building out a place to fulfil the needs of mums, whilst also trying to make it a sustainable and profitable business? You can learn more about From Day One here. Please note that the information provided in this podcast is for educational and entertainment purposes only and is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. • Talking about birth trauma with Midwife, Jess
In today’s episode, we’re joined by Jess, an Irish Midwife, Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), HypnoBirthing Educator, and birth trauma therapist. Jess is passionate about addressing the impact of fear on childbirth and advocates for the benefits of birth trauma therapy for those preparing for birth or healing from past experiences. With the NSW birth trauma inquiry making headlines globally, this episode is both timely and personally meaningful as we explore these important topics. Some of the questions we asked Jess were: As a mum who experienced a very traumatic first birth, I didn’t fully understand the impact it could have until I went through it myself. How did you get into this work?Birth trauma is a prevalent topic right now, especially with the NSW birth trauma inquiry. For so long, women were told that having a healthy baby was all that mattered, and they should be content. What changes have you seen in how this issue is perceived? What can we, as health professionals, do to reduce the incidence of birth trauma? You can find Jess at @jess.themidwifePlease note that the information provided in this podcast is for educational and entertainment purposes only and is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.
