  • Healthy Masculinity with Richie Hardcore
In this episode of Untidy, Matilda and Hannah are joined by Richie Hardcore, former Muay Thai champion, educator, and speaker on healthy masculinity, mental health, and preventing gendered violence. Richie works with young people, schools, and communities across Aotearoa, bringing lived experience and practical tools into spaces where these conversations are needed most.CONTENT WARNING: Some of this conversation may be upsetting to some listeners. This episode discusses topics including family violence, sexual violence, pornography, and toxic online influences. Please take care and choose a time and a place to listen that’s right for you. In this kōrero, Richie shares his personal story of growing up around family harm, how he found resilience through fighting and music, and what led him to dedicate his life to cultural change. We talk about the very real risks facing boys today, from toxic online influences to the normalisation of porn, and how parents and caregivers can better support their kids. We dive into what healthy masculinity actually looks like, why role models matter so much, and how we can create spaces where young people feel safe to be vulnerable, respectful, and true to themselves. It’s a big, sometimes confronting conversation, but one filled with hope and compassion. Whether you’re raising boys, working with young people, or reflecting on your own journey, this episode will give you insight, strategies, and a lot to think about. • And together, we rant ...
In this episode of Untidy, Matilda and Hannah begin with a good, cathartic rant. (You are encouraged to pause this episode and join them as needed.) Hannah’s having bad brain days, Matty’s wrestling tangled headphones, hectic mornings, running on fumes, and they’re both reaching for more self-compassion, or, at least, a little bit of acceptance. However, there’s something that can be done, and they’re doing it, even if it begins with a boiled egg and the last bit of dry old ham. Hannah relives the Kaikōura earthquake, and Matty questions whether she’s thriving, coping, or slightly falling apart. Then, your good friends have a friendly chat about a few bits of life admin worth checking that absolutely, in no way, should be confused with qualified advice. (Isn’t that what GPT is for?) Come, scream into a pillow together now, and we can summer in Tuscany later ... • Living life out loud with Petra Bagust
In this episode of Untidy, Matilda and Hannah chat to Petra Bagust, a legend of New Zealand TV, radio and podcasting, and an advocate for living her neurodiverse life out loud. If you grew up in 90s Aotearoa, you’ll know the nostalgia of Ice TV, where Petra cut her teeth creating the culturally iconic show. 30 years on, Petra is one of New Zealand’s most beloved broadcasters, presenters, a media chaplain, and the voice behind two successful podcasts, the award-winning ‘Grey Areas’ and the soulful ‘Sunday Sanctuary’. In this conversation, Petra takes us behind the scenes of her career as she balanced work, family, and motherhood, and discusses her personal journey with ADHD. She talks about her adult diagnosis, how her son’s journey began her own, and what it’s meant to reframe parts of herself she now understands from a wider perspective. From grief to self-compassion, masking to unmasking, and the collision of ADHD with her ‘second spring’ of perimenopause, Petra brings her signature authenticity, spirit, and mana to a kōrero so many will find relatable. • The sage and the charcuterie
In this episode of Untidy, Matilda and Hannah start out with a plan and run gleefully in the other direction. They park up in Matty’s Medical Corner for some interesting but entirely unqualified health diagnoses, coin a term for being in public just wearing your own face, and catch up on the organised chaos amply provided by each of their offspring. There’s chat of house parties, hangovers, and the diabolical evidence of Matty’s last big night out, which was kindly recorded for perpetuity on Paula Bennett’s podcast (linked in show notes). In a love letter to female friendships, Hannah’s survived her first ‘fight’ with her Pilates Partner, thanks to an emergency meeting of the Coven in the War Room amid a cloud of burning sage, curated playlist, and a variety of cheeses. As always, underqualified and oversharing ... served with a side of disclaimers! Happy listening, Untidy fam! • Backing yourself with Matty McLean
In this episode of Untidy, Matilda and Hannah chat to Matty McLean (or, as he would prefer ... ‘Pockets’). Best known for his years on Breakfast, Matty is a co-host on The Hits Drive with our very own Matilda Green, as well as a co-host on ‘Out the Gayte’ podcast. He’s been a weather presenter, a news reporter, and even took out Celebrity Treasure Island. This chat is full of the signature warmth, humour, and hard-won wisdom Matty is known and loved for. He shares what it’s taken to truly back himself in his career, how he’s navigated the expectations that come with being a familiar face, and why you’ve got to speak up when you really want something. Matty shares what it means to him to live authentically, the power of sharing your story, and the profound impact visibility can have on those that are watching and listening, especially our kids. In a little friendly rivalry, Matty and Hannah (Bean) go head-to-head in a ‘Battle of the Co-Hosts’. Things get competitive ... Whether you know him as Matty, Matt, or Pockets, this one’s full of earnest insights, and garnished with giggles.
