Episode 44 - Sharing My Design Thinking: Inside a Recent Project

    29/09/2026 | 18 mins.
Episode Title - Sharing My Design Thinking: Inside a Recent Project

What actually goes through an interior designer's mind when working on a real project?

In this episode of The My Decorator Show, I'm taking you behind the scenes of a recently completed home and sharing the design thinking behind the finished result.

    See the home here: https://mydecorator.com.au/blog/

Rather than simply showing you the beautiful finished spaces, I'm talking through the decisions, challenges and considerations that shaped the design — including how I worked with the home's existing furniture, beautiful architectural features and generous proportions.

The client wanted the large home to feel warm, cosy and welcoming, while still retaining the sense of space and light that made the home so special.

I'll share how I approached that challenge, why I introduced greens and warm neutrals, how I balanced cool and warm elements, and why designing a home isn't always about replacing everything and starting again.

In this episode, you'll hear about:

What I noticed when I first walked into the home
The challenge of making a large, light-filled home feel cosy
How I worked with existing furniture
Why I introduced greens, warm neutrals and natural elements
How I balanced warmth with the home's generous sense of space
Why I think about the home as a whole rather than designing rooms in isolation
The difference between choosing beautiful things and making those things work together

For me, good interior design isn't simply about choosing beautiful furniture and décor. It's about understanding how all the elements of a home work together — and making thoughtful decisions that create the feeling you actually want.

If you're looking around your own home thinking, “Something isn't quite right, but I don't know what it is,” a Design Consultation is the ideal first step.

Together, we can look at your home as a whole, how you live in it, what's working, what's not, and where thoughtful changes could make the biggest difference.
