Turns out we got REALLY unlucky (or very lucky, if you love narratively satisfying storytelling) in our d4 rolls for the trial. But that's pretty par for the course by now really. Find out which dark and twisted tomes Harry pulled our horrific opponents from, how difficult this group (still) is to balance, and how the party feel about THAT near death. Some moments don’t wait for speeches or second thoughts, because in the space between one breath and the next, perfection can become perilous when the gauntlet begins. Sharpen your senses, steady your nerves, and take the initiative to jump into the fray, because while beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, it’s best not to look it directly in the eye.

Confidence might be slowly peeled away and fear might be getting under your skin, but all you need to survive is remember just how impressive you are. After all, humility may be optional, but enthusiasm is mandatory, and salvation can still arrive with a flourish. Even ancient magic enjoys a well timed brag.

While every fight might feel like a drop in the ocean, it’s time to take the plunge. Calmer waters may await, but even they don’t stop what lies below from reaching the surface. Sometimes answers only appear when you look closer, and not everyone is ready to see what the reflection reveals. After all, it’s one thing to survive what’s in front of you, and quite another to face what’s staring back.

This episode was a nice reminder that you never quite know what you are going to get. We mean, who knew that trees would love a bit of gossip?

It’s wild to think that everything with the now aptly named Sword of the Flood, a cursed item that is a shock to absolutely nobody, started all the way back in episode 37. It really shows just how much has happened, and how far we have come (ugh) as a group.

Those dreams? Isolation might have been the theme, but Elowen had a set number of dreams that had to play out, and you never quite know how those rolls are going to land. Harry finally talks the table through what Elowen experienced, and we dig into the choices she made. Elowen and Raidion definitely have the energy of a couple who have been together far too long, but also cannot function without each other.

Harry also gives us more insight into his planning, how much he prepares, how much he has planned, how much he doesn’t, and how much is simply created in the moment. Taverns are a perfect example. We had plenty to choose from, but none of them were planned, and those little moments are what make it special. And weird. Special and weird. Oh, and it covers plot holes too.

Patience is a virtue, and we talk about arcs and how complex storytelling becomes easier the deeper you go. This time, we are tagging Kelnys in, and we’re very excited for the next part of the adventure.

When who you are and who you might become begin to blur, it’s no longer about the enemy you’re facing, but the truth you’ve been avoiding.

A promise of power doesn’t mean it belongs in your hands. Strength can be taken, it can be wielded, but it’s not the only way to endure. Sometimes the fight is not against the unknown, but against something that understands you all too well. And when nightmares stop being warnings and start becoming challenges, the only way forward is to meet them face to face, even when it’s your face they’re wearing. It's no longer about if you’re strong enough to survive, but whether you can be honest enough to endure.

In moments where spite might keep you moving, it’s trust that keeps you standing. Falling may be inevitable, but getting back up is not. Sometimes the difference is not made by the steel in your hands, but by the hands that steady you, and by who you choose to hold onto when everything threatens to pull you apart.
Some burdens can only be understood when they’re laid down, reforged or left to burn up entirely. After all, the road ahead won’t ask what you’ve let go, only what you’re still carrying.

The action is surging. It's very surgy.

Out of a possible 600, we got 542, which, considering the investment we have made into this city, does feel pretty fair, even if we did have to end this episode on a slightly more serious note. And no, we are not talking about a pickled egg pocket.

Harry walks us through the mechanics of the city and what helped us land such a strong result in the mustering. We're thrilled to learn there was always a chance at a participation medal, but thanks to our hard work, it turns out infrastructure for Mouse is probably going to be the bigger issue.

Then we get to the biggest question at the end of episode 51: to Revivify or not to Revivify? And if someone is simply dead, or dead dead? It's a pretty important decision to make, and we're sure it will be a divisive one, but in the end, we can only do what feels right in the moment for us, our characters, and the story we're telling. It's a balancing act!

We also talk about the story bank Raidion visited, and the difference between storytelling in Veil and story chronicling in Talisca, as well as the difference between gold, story, and red when it comes to telling a tale. Oh, and we take a little trip into Raidion’s psyche, because sharing isn't really caring for everyone’s favourite wizard. It's more like a one night stand.

And now, as we get ready to say goodbye to the city, is that it for fun stuff? Who knows. At this point, we don't even think Harry does.
