Southland Boys High School 1st XV made a fair statement in its preseason win over Kings College of Auckland two weeks ago. Head coach Jason Dermody is back for another sit-down on The Roar to talk through the class of 2026 and the new structure to the season.

Before then, Logan, Nathan and Nick look at an amazing Sunday which saw the Sharks, Steel and Highlanders all register wins within a few hours and discuss Liam Ferguson's incredible try-scoring feats over the first three weeks of the club rugby season.

Football Southland's Operations and Development officer Iain Walker joins The Roar to walk us through the new turf which has been laid at the organisation's home at Turnbull Thompson Park in Invercargill. We also chat through their vision for the facility, the innovative approach it is taking to meet the needs of a changing sporting landscape and the state of the game in the south.

An under-manned Southland Sharks squad suffered an opening round loss at the hands of the Otago Nuggets on Friday night. Sharks' big man Sam Timmins joins The Roar to look at the 2026 season and at life as a basketball nomad.

Three Southlanders have been named in the New Zealand Under-20 rugby squad, Mika Muliaina, Jackson Hughan and Jay Reihana, with Jimmy Taylor a non-travelling reserve.

Rugby Southland's Head of Pathways, Liam Howley joins The Roar to talk through all four and the ins and outs of his role overseeing what seems to be an increasing talent base around the sport in the south.
