In this episode, Sam and Will talk about the doctrine of hell and why our culture’s images of it can be very different from what the Bible teaches. They explain why hell matters for understanding the cross, God’s wrath against sin, and why Jesus talked about hell so often. You’ll hear hell described as self-chosen separation from God, including the loss of God’s goodness and common grace. They also walk through key Bible language and images, including “Gehenna,” and Jesus’ parable of the rich man and Lazarus in Luke 16. The conversation ends with hope, calling listeners to abide in Christ (John 15) and describing the Christian life as being transformed “from one degree of glory to another” (2 Corinthians 3:18). If you are new to Christianity, let this push you to take God seriously and to run to Jesus instead of running from Him. If this helped you, share it with a friend who is Bible-curious and wants a simple starting point.

Jesus didn’t just teach Israel’s story—He re-lived it and fulfilled it. In this episode of Under the Hood, Sam and Will trace the Bible’s repeating patterns—from Abraham’s promise and Moses’ covenant to Israel’s failures—and show how Jesus steps in as the true Israel, accomplishing what the nation couldn’t. You’ll hear how the Old Testament’s “unconditional promises” and “conditional obedience” tension finds its resolution in Christ, plus a rapid-fire rundown of 25 striking parallels: Egypt, the waters, the wilderness, the mountain, the exodus, the feasts, the shepherd, the vine—and more. By the end, you’ll see why Hebrews calls Jesus the better priest, better covenant, and ultimate fulfillment of everything Israel pointed toward.

Ep. 60: Why Did God Allow the Babylonian Exile?

    29/01/2026 | 27 mins.
In this episode of Under the Hood, Sam and Will explore the Babylonian Exile—one of the most devastating yet hope-filled moments in the Bible’s story. Six centuries before Jesus, Jerusalem falls, the temple is destroyed, and God’s people are scattered across the ancient world. Why would a loving God allow this? And how could judgment possibly serve redemption?

Using Scripture alongside archaeological evidence—from Nebuchadnezzar’s inscriptions to Babylonian records of Jewish exiles—this episode shows how God’s justice, heartbreak, and sovereignty work together. What looks like defeat becomes the very groundwork for the spread of the gospel, setting the stage for the Messiah and a new covenant of grace.

Watch to see how exile, suffering, and loss are never the end of the story—and how God weaves even judgment into His redemptive plan.
