CAR T Toxicities in Focus: What We Have Learned from Registry Data

    09/09/2026 | 17 mins.
In this episode, Dr Annalisa Ruggeri discusses how registry data are helping clinicians better understand, monitor and manage CAR T-related toxicities. She explains how insights from more than 16,000 patients recorded in the European Bone Marrow Transplant Registry (EBMT), have helped improve early toxicities such as cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and ICANS awareness and management as well as helped recognise and address longer-term effects. She further explores the growing understanding of immune effector cell-associated hematotoxicity (ICAHT) and the importance of risk prediction and early intervention.

Dr Ruggeri also discusses emerging safety questions as CAR T use expands, including secondary malignancies, long-term immune effects, and fertility outcomes. She highlights encouraging registry findings showing that fertility recovery and successful pregnancies are possible after CAR T therapy, offering renewed hope for patients seeking to return to normal life following treatment. Listen now for valuable insights into how registries, collaboration and long-term follow-up are helping improve cellular therapy.

    Guest:
    Dr Annalisa Ruggeri
Haematology and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, IRCCS San Raffaele Scientific Institute, Milan, Italy
Chair of the Cellular Therapy and Immunobiology Working Party (Education Portfolio), EBMT

    Host: Leah DeLeon

CAR-T for Pediatric B-ALL: Expert Tips

    28/08/2026 | 21 mins.
In this episode, Prof André Baruchel discusses the role of CAR T-cell therapy in children with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). He reviews current indications for CAR T-cell treatment, including relapsed and refractory disease, and explores whether CAR T could move earlier in the treatment pathway. The discussion also examines how CAR T-cell therapy compares with transplantation, blinatumomab, and other salvage strategies, as well as the factors that influence long-term outcomes and relapse risk.

The conversation highlights key questions surrounding the role of allo-HSCT in the CAR T era. Prof Baruchel also explores emerging approaches designed to improve outcomes, including dual-targeted CARs, strategies to enhance cellular persistence.

Listen now for insights into how fourth-generation CAR constructs that modify the tumour microenvironment, and in vivo CAR therapies may further transform the treatment of pediatric B-ALL.

    Guests:  Prof André Baruchel
Affiliation: Professor of Pediatrics, Université Paris-Cité; former Head of the Pediatric Hematology Immunology Department, Hôpital Robert-Debré, Paris

    Host: Leah DeLeon
