Davos' Fingers - A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast

Scad guides the listener through Jon I from A Clash of Kings as Jon visits Sam in the Castle Black Library, discusses kingliness with Donal Noye, contends with the (seemingly?) random musings of a pet crow, and learns a great deal about the history of House Targaryen from Lord Commander Jeor Mormont (it seemed extraneous at the time!).

In this series of solo episodes, Scad will draw a random chapter from all the chapters in ASOAIF.  Then he will provide a VERY brief summary, followed by some observations.  Meant to refresh or minds on material covered long ago, this can help restore our connective tissue on events in the series.

The next episode will cover...who knows, the dice will decide!

In this new normal, Scad takes the reins to talk directly with the Khalasar.  He will draw a random chapter every week and bring his thoughts on it to the fandom.  In this episode, the epic showdown between The Viper and The Mountain.  Tyrion's fate and the long dormant case of Elia's murder take center stage in this chapter featuring an epic battle between two of the finest fighters in the 7 Kingdoms

 

Next week, who knows, the dice will decide!

In Episode 155 Kvothe plays a trick and a song at the Eolian.  But the reaction is not what he hoped for, perhaps affecting hs ability to collect coin from the wealthy establishment there.  To make matters worse, Kvothe has been poisoned, causing him to bungle his admissions and achieve his worst tuition yet!  Even after he has collected his various moneys from his artificing, and playing tips, his purse is still a bit light, so back to Devi he must go.  And the Fingers are here for it!

We cover this series spoiler-free in the main section, but Devi After Dark is our chance to dive into the wilder speculation about these books, at the end of each episode.  We hope to bring you the best of our own theories and thoughts in the fandom as we move through the series.

In this episode the Fingers kick off their coverage of The Wise Man’s Fear, the second book of The Kingkiller Chronicle, by Patrick Rothfuss.  In what is a bit of a catchup series of chapters, we see the silence of the Inn, the magical illusion Kote has laid upon the civilians of the town that even he can’t overcome, and we reacquaint ourselves with the Eolian as Kvothe tries to make some money for tuition…the same old song and dance!

In the final episode of their coverage of The Name of the Wind, Matt and Scad get to meet a skindancer as the Waystone Inn is attacked, by someone or something that doesn’t seem to know what it is looking for.  We also learn a little bit about Bast’s intentions, get a feel for the (dis)organization of the University Archives, and sink into the loudest and most disruptive silence you can imagine.  We also take plenty of detours as usual and revel in each other’s company.
