In this one, Mark Sawyer-Chu (@thestokelife) sits down with Andrew (@AmityAndrew) from the newly formed Christian Surfers Wisconsin team, as he shares the early story of launching a brand-new surf ministry chapter in the heart of the Great Lakes. What makes this conversation so unique is the setting - surf culture far from the ocean, where Lake Michigan becomes both the playground and the mission field.  Andrew unpacks how a simple vision for fellowship, surfing, and outreach has quickly grown into a movement of people responding to what they believe God is building in their region. From an initial vision-casting breakfast hosted at home, to 27 responses of interest and leadership willingness, the momentum has been unmistakable.  What began as a handful of conversations has turned into a committed leadership group gathering for meals, prayer, and planning as they prepare to launch their first official CS Wisconsin campout.

Noah opens up about growing up in a spiritually dry corner of paradise, Kauai, and how his parents’ faith took root there through a small band of Santa Cruz missionaries decades ago. From that foundation, Noah traces his own steady, unwavering walk with the Lord, his marriage to his college sweetheart Becky, and the tight-knit, faith-first family life that carried him through a decade working behind the scenes on major films like Jurassic World, Jumanji, and Kong: Skull Island, as well as faith-based projects including Soul Surfer, I Can Only Imagine, and the Reagan biopic.

The conversation turns to Noah’s next chapter: building wave pools as a mission field. He shares his vision for Boca Surf Park in Florida and a future project in Houston, describing surf parks as the “ski lift moment” for surfing - a way to make the sport accessible to inner-city kids, foster youth, adaptive athletes, and anyone who’s never had a wave in their backyard.

Cheyne shares his journey growing up in Florida around Island Water Sports, a surf shop founded by his father that later became a platform for ministry and community. What began as a surf business soon became a bridge into church planting and outreach, shaping Cheyne’s early understanding of purpose and calling. As a teenager, his life shifted when his family moved to South Africa to help pioneer Christian Surfers South Africa.

There, surfing, church, and mission life became deeply intertwined as his father helped grow a movement connecting surfers to Jesus. The conversation also reflects on Cheyne’s years traveling the world on the QS, living out of suitcases, chasing waves, and eventually stepping back into the family business in Florida. What was meant to be temporary became a long-term calling as he helped steward Island Water Sports into what it is today, now expanded across multiple locations. He also shares the impact of loss after the passing of his father in South Africa, and how his family has continued to live out faith through ministry, education, and service.

Through it all, Cheyne reflects on identity, ambition, grief, and what it means to live with an eternal perspective - seeing surfing not as the destination, but as a tool to serve people and share Jesus.
