Every civilization on earth, independently, arrived at the same conclusion: the correct way to relate to the invisible forces governing reality is to kill something, drain its blood, burn parts of it, and eat the rest. Why blood? Why fire? Why did they eat the sacrifice? And why did the substance of sacrifice change over time in a sequence that maps onto the astronomical ages with almost unsettling precision?

 

In this audio only episode, I trace the oldest pattern in religion: from Ba'al's bull to Abraham's ram to the bread and wine of the Last Supper. The sacrificial animal shifts from bull to lamb to no animal at all, and each transition corresponds to the precessional movement from Taurus through Aries into Pisces.
