The Race Formula E Podcast

Varying conditions in China brought varied results as Pascal Wehrlein, and incredibly Lucas di Grassi took a win apiece as Formula E hit new heights in random results and formbooks being torn up at Shanghai.

While timetables were amended and the obligatory contentious incidents played out, Wehrlein and Porsche took over at the top of the points standings with a sublime Saturday performance.

24 hours later it was a tale of two races as wet and dry set-up cars turned the race on its own head with Lucas di Grassi and Jean-Eric Vergne proving that experience counts with calculated dry-weather set-ups that came good at the very end of the race.

The hot, humid and heady atmosphere of Sanya, on the Chinese island of Hainan was mirrored by some lairy action on the track as Jake Dennis claimed his second win of the season for Andretti.

While Dennis celebrated, the title chasing quartet of Mitch Evans, Oliver Rowland, Pascal Wehrlein and Edoardo Mortara came away with not a point between them as shunts and bizarre fire extinguisher activations accounted for the top four in the points table.

Pepe Marti took an FE career best second place but his CUPRA Kiro teammate blotted his copybook again when he smashed in to the back of Evans’ Jaguar just before a bizarre red flag incident that those two combatants were also involved in.

As well as the red flag query, some of the penalties that were dished out are also unpacked, as is the new 2026-27 calendar that will include new tracks at Zandvoort, Brands Hatch and COTA.

An eventful, controversial and penalty laden Monaco double-header played out as the 2026 ABB FIA Formula E world championship reached the halfway mark.
Jaguar opened up a buffer over a fractious and self-sabotaging Porsche in the championship standings, although neither took a win as both Mahindra and Nissan claimed two clinical wins via Nyck de Vries and Oliver Rowland.

The undoubted king of the qualifying lap though was Dan Ticktum who took a brace of thrilling pole positions for CUPRA Kiro. But a combination of poor strategy execution, a contentious shunt with Antonio Felix da Costa and overheating tyres scuppered any chance adding to his six ‘pole points.’

Two very different Berlin E-Prixs are mulled over by Sam Smith and Val Khorounzhiy as the 2026 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship approached the halfway point at the unique Tempelhof circuit.

Nico Mueller finally broke through in to the winner’s circle after 68 attempts, while Mitch Evans re-affirmed his title threat with a second win of the season for Jaguar, via an audacious tyre and early energy save strategy. But Pascal Wehrlein’s pole and third place in the second of the double-headers ensured that Porsche were the big winners and continue to hold the lead in all three of the title chases.
