1000 Houses Podcast

My family and I spend a lot of time at Lakeside Bible Camp in Washington. I grew up coming here in the summers, and it's a big part of my own spiritual DNA, having been founded by a group of Plymouth Brethren assemblies.

It's that spiritual DNA that I'll be talking about in this episode, and it's something I want to challenge you to consider in your own life.

Whether the DNA has shaped your life directly or indirectly (we don't attend a Plymouth Brethren assembly, for example), there are things that have happened along the way that make your faith what it is, and make you who you are.

As part of our journey to build roots as a multi-generational family, it can be helpful to consider the soil and the seeds that eventually matured into your family tree - family and spiritually.

What kind of church did Jesus envision?

This is part 2 of my attempt to answer that, breaking down the church into it's various "cornerstones", from the ground up, in this order:

Family

The Confession

Parallel Government

Apprenticeship Movement

Household Hubs

Body

Mutual Submission

If we go from first principles, I think you'll see that we've basically been doing church all wrong.

Worship services are great and important, but they are NOT the fullness of what Christ intended to create.

I'll also break down the missing element that will allow us to create an Acts-style church again in our cities, and it probably won't be what you think.

Small Groups are NOT the same as disciple-making.

Brian was deep into Small Groups, doing it the way everyone's been doing it for ages, when the Lord suddenly convicted him that he wasn't actually fulfilling the Great Commission with the work he was doing.

He chose the path of humility and allowed the Lord to strip him of all that he thought he knew, and to build him back up.

And the results have been incredible.

Brian's disciple-making went to the 4th and 5th generation and beyond, and he now helps churches make disciples who make disciples...again, getting to that magical 4th generation where growth becomes natural and expected.
