A 21st Century Guide To Chain-Reaction Disciple-Making in the West
Sometimes it takes leaving a position to see what you've been missing the whole time.
That was certainly the case for today's guest, Cory Hartman.
After 13 years in a pastoral role, he entered a new chapter as a dad looking for a church for his family...
And it was only then that he realized just how much time, money, and energy went into making sure the Sunday morning service ran smoothly. And that that same amount of resources was NOT being dedicated to disciple-making.
Through a number of opportunities and new experiences, he ended up dedicating his time to building a network amongst disciple-making movements across the world, and continues that work with New Generations.
We talked about the lessons Cory learned after leaving pastoral ministry, how to make disciples in our ultra-urban environments in the West, and what we can learn from other disciple-making movements around the world.
In this episode, we talk about:
0:00 Intro
0:36 Cory and New Generations
4:30 How it all got started
13:54 Lessons about church from outside a pastoral role
23:29 New insights on what the church is meant to be
29:29 How do we make disciples in the modern urban context?
40:15 Are there any western disciple-making movements getting to the 4th generation?
45:04 Starting chain reactions in the West

THIS is what happens when a CHURCH gets serious about disciple-making
What does it look like when a church gets serious about making disciples who make disciples?
You're about to find out.
We're really excited to bring you this sermon from my friend Chris Marlin, who is the pastor at City Church OTR.
Chris is one of a handful of pastors around Cincinnatti who, around the exact same time, has been inspired to really step into disciple-making as a church leader.
His process is very similar to the 1KH model, and so we wanted to share his perspective and his framework because we think it's highly duplicable across other churches around the city and nation.
In this episode, we talk about:
0:00 Intro
1:20 Dominion
4:00 How did Christianity grow so rapidly?
14:39 Jesus and Paul's last words
20:30 Triads
28:49 Why are we doing this?

Overcoming The MAIN Objection About Disciple-Making
The vast majority of Christians we meet are blatantly disobedient to the Great Commission...they're not making disciples.
Not many people know what this looks like or how to do it, and yet...
When we bring our structured, tested plan for disciple-making to people, they often push back on us for this main reason.
Honestly it doesn't make sense! But we think it has a lot to do with our western cultural mindset and we dive into that in this episode.
We'll also give you a couple of practical ways to move into intentional, disciple-making relationships that multiply.
In this episode, we talk about:
0:00 Intro
1:41 The number one pushback we get to disciple-making
6:51 In violation of the great commission
13:29 The invitation
20:06 Shift in discipleship meaning
27:28 Get a disciple-making movement going

Why We Never Use Curriculum for Discipleship
What if making disciples didn’t require a curriculum?
In this episode, Jeremy and April pull back the curtain on their Life on Life discipleship blueprint and reveal why transformation happens best through impartation, not information.
From showing someone how you underline your Bible to sharing the family systems that actually work in your home, discipleship is about passing on your real life in Christ.
Jeremy shares his simple 5-minute prep method that fuels 90-minute training sessions, while April walks through how she disciples busy moms with practical rhythms and Titus 2 wisdom.
This conversation will change the way you think about discipling others - simple, reproducible, and deeply relational.
In this episode, we talk about:
0:00 Intro
1:54 Why we don’t use curriculum
3:39 How do you actually train without curriculum?
8:04 Prompts to find your catalogue of trainings
12:24 Jeremy’s training example
18:51 April’s approach to discipling stay at home moms
26:33 Low-prep discipleship works
