Rose has chosen Mannequin (90 mins). Released in 1987 and directed by Michael Gottlieb, the romantic comedy stars Kim Cattrall, Andrew McCarthy, James Spader, and Meshach Taylor.
Sam and Rose discuss what it's like to be a comedian at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, how Rose discovered Mannequin, and how the film's animated title sequence does a lot of heavy lifting for the plot.

Simon has chosen Elephant (88 mins). The 2003 Palme d'Or winner directed by Gus Van Sant, and stars mostly unknown actors including Alex Frost, Eric Deulen, John Robinson, Elias McConnell, and Kristen Hicks.
Sam and Simon discuss making his new movie and working with Netflix, the pioneering filmmaking in Elephant, and a rare appearance of Béla Tarr on the podcast.

Tracy has chosen Paths of Glory (88 mins). Directed by Stanley Kubrick, the 1957 anti-war film stars Kirk Douglas, Adolphe Menjou, and George Macready.
Sam and Tracy discuss working with Kathryn Bigelow, why Paths of Glory is his second favourite Kubrick film, and his vast physical media collection.

In episode 149 Sam is joined by filmmaker Phil Johnston, director of The Twits, now streaming on Netflix. Phil's other work includes Wreck-It Ralph, Zootopia, and Ralph Breaks the Internet.
Phil has chosen Salesman (90 mins). An early example of a direct cinema documentary film, it was directed by brothers Albert and David Maysles and Charlotte Zwerin. The film follows four door-to-door Bible salesmen: Charles McDevitt, James Baker, Raymond Martos, and Paul Brennan.
Sam and Phil discuss his gateway into Roald Dahl, his love of the characters in Salesman, and casting Johnny Vegas as Mr. Twit.
