Julie Ryan sits down with certified End of Life Doula and death literacy educator Claire O’Berry for a revealing conversation about what families can expect as someone approaches the end of life—and why understanding the dying process may replace some of our deepest fears with greater peace.
Claire walks Julie through her practical two-weeks-out, two-days-out, and two-hours-out framework, explaining the physical and emotional changes that can occur as the body begins its natural dying process. They explore what happens during the final hours, why dying may look very different from what families expect, and how knowing the signs can help loved ones feel less frightened and more prepared.

Claire O’Berry is a certified End of Life Doula, death literacy educator, international speaker, and host of the Dying Your Way podcast. Her journey into end-of-life care began in 2005, when she became the primary caregiver for both of her parents during the final six years of their lives, ultimately helping each of them experience a peaceful death at home surrounded by family and friends. Inspired to help others navigate this profound stage of life with greater knowledge and confidence, Claire pursued formal end-of-life training with pioneers Deanna Cochran, Suzanne O’Brien, and Patty Burgess. Today, she teaches individuals and families how to prepare for the end-of-life journey and hosts conversations with experts and individuals sharing personal experiences with death and dying. Claire holds an MBA from Pepperdine University and a B.S.Ed. from the University of North Texas, and is an Advance Care Planning Educator (ACPE), Certified End of Life Doula (CEOLD), and member of the National End of Life Doula Alliance (NEDA).

A woman disappears during devastating floods in Nepal. Her sister hasn't heard from her in 40 hours—and turns to Julie Ryan for answers. What does Julie sense when she connects?
