TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 13:5–6
Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” [6] So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” (ESV)
SUMMARY
We reflect on Hebrews and the promise that God will not leave or forsake us, then explore how love of money competes with trust and contentment. We end with a simple prayer to release fear and rest in Jesus as our helper.
• the pull of money as security and enjoyment
• the danger lies in loving money, not using it
• re-centering love on God to learn contentment
• proclaiming “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear”
• Jesus as better security than savings or investments
• a guided prayer to release anxiety and rest
Help us to be free from the love of money and to be content with what we have. Enable us as we rest tonight to take a deep breath. And as we let it out, let out every anxiety and fear, and remind ourselves the Lord is our helper. We have no reason to fear. You are adequate. You’re a better security than money, than retirement, than investments. You are our greatest investment, the one who will always pay eternal dividends.
