  • A Practitioner’s Guide to Topical Herbal Remedies
What do you think of when you hear “topical herbs”? Chances are, you think about putting herbs on your skin, perhaps in the form of creams, salves, or poultices.  But this is only one type of topical application.  In herbal medicine, topical use is much broader than applying medicine to the skin (though this is also a critical treatment). Any time an herb comes into direct contact with the tissue it’s meant to treat—whether the skin, or the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract or digestive tract—it is acting topically. Here’s what you’ll learn in this post: The broader definition of topical application, beyond application to the skin How herbs act topically in the respiratory tract, digestive system, female reproductive system, and on the skin Key herbal actions like vulnerary, antimicrobial, demulcent, and more for topical use Preparations for topical use, such as poultices, infused oils, liniments, and medicated neti pots Recommended herbs for each organ system and their unique roles in healing Important cautions and considerations for using topical herbal remedies safely   ———————————— CONNECT WITH SAJAH AND WHITNEY ———————————— To get free in depth mini-courses and videos, visit our blog at:  http://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com   Get daily inspiration and plant wisdom on our Facebook and Instagram channels: http://www.facebook.com/EvolutionaryHerbalism https://www.instagram.com/evolutionary_herbalism/   Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyP63opAmcpIAQg1M9ShNSQ   Get a free 5-week course when you buy a copy of the book, Evolutionary Herbalism: https://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com/evolutionary-herbalism-book/   Shop our herbal products:  https://naturasophiaspagyrics.com/   ———————————— ABOUT THE PLANT PATH ———————————— The Plant Path is a window into the world of herbal medicine. • Energetics, Mutual Aid and the Future of Herbalism, an Interview with Kat Maier
Today, I am excited to share with you my interview with Kathleen Maier. She’s a fantastic herbalist who's been at it for quite some time, and I was honored to be able to speak with her.   Here’s what you can look forward to in this interview: We discuss Kat’s book, Energetic Herbalism, which covers energetics from a wide range of perspectives and orientations. We talk about Kat’s inspirations for the book and some key takeaways from it, including what energetics is, and the uniting principles of energetics that apply cross-culturally worldwide. Insights from Kat’s work in clinical herbalism mentoring We discuss the transition from being a student herbalist to a practicing herbalist, what holds us back in that transition, and the practical and business aspects of being a clinical herbalist. We talk about Kat’s work providing aid and herbal services to people in need, including disaster relief efforts, and how herbalists and companies can provide support to people who need help, which Kat calls “mutual aid.”   We covered a lot of ground, and I hope you’ll enjoy our conversation!   Learn more about Kat here: Website: https://www.katmaierherbalism.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/katmaier7/ Purchase her Book: https://sacredplanttraditions.com/#buybook ———————————— CONNECT WITH SAJAH AND WHITNEY ———————————— To get free in depth mini-courses and videos, visit our blog at:  http://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com   Get daily inspiration and plant wisdom on our Facebook and Instagram channels: http://www.facebook.com/EvolutionaryHerbalism https://www.instagram.com/evolutionary_herbalism/   Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyP63opAmcpIAQg1M9ShNSQ   Get a free 5-week course when you buy a copy of the book, Evolutionary Herbalism: https://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com/evolutionary-herbalism-book/   Shop our herbal products:  https://naturasophiaspagyrics.com/   ———————————— ABOUT THE PLANT PATH ———————————— The Plant Path is a window into the world of herbal medicine. • Diagnosis Identity, Trauma, and the Human Condition
In this post, I’m delving into a concept that has been on my mind for the past few months. I call this concept “diagnosis identity,” and it’s about the nature of the human condition, the role of suffering in our lives, and how we navigate it. It’s about what we choose to do with suffering and illness, and a call to rise above our suffering, learn from it, and ultimately not allow it to take over our lives and become a part of our identity. In this piece, we’ll explore: Why suffering is both inevitable and potentially transformative The difference between trauma and the normal struggles of life The cultural trend of over-identifying with a diagnosis and how it can become an obstacle to healing The alchemical idea of transforming poison into medicine A vitalist approach to healing through strength, forgiveness, and meaning How practitioners can spot “stuck” cases and support deeper transformation   ———————————— CONNECT WITH SAJAH AND WHITNEY ———————————— To get free in depth mini-courses and videos, visit our blog at:  http://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com   Get daily inspiration and plant wisdom on our Facebook and Instagram channels: http://www.facebook.com/EvolutionaryHerbalism https://www.instagram.com/evolutionary_herbalism/   Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyP63opAmcpIAQg1M9ShNSQ   Get a free 5-week course when you buy a copy of the book, Evolutionary Herbalism: https://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com/evolutionary-herbalism-book/   Shop our herbal products:  https://naturasophiaspagyrics.com/   ———————————— ABOUT THE PLANT PATH ———————————— The Plant Path is a window into the world of herbal medicine.
