  • 5 Ways Vitalism Transformed My Life
Diving into the world of herbal medicine and the traditions that have carried it for a long time oftentimes introduces us to new concepts, principles, practices, and ways of seeing the world around us that aren’t often taught to us in our modern world. And sometimes there’s something there that changes your life forever.  For me, the principles of vitalism were one of the biggest revolutionary moments in my life, not only as an herbalist, but as a human being. While I’ll share a bit more about the five ways vitalism transformed my life, they’re also the ways it can transform yours too. This is more than just changing how we see the world around us, or even being more integrated with nature, but it’s also about reaching new levels of self-understanding.    Here’s a snapshot of this week's episode: Why self-understanding includes knowing your own body and its uniqueness How nature externally influences our own nature internally Using herbs beyond just treating symptoms and into supporting health and vitality Why the vitalist herbalist sometimes doesn’t even need to use herbs How the vitalist perspective ultimately boils down to a spiritual way of seeing the world around us ———————————— CONNECT WITH SAJAH AND WHITNEY ———————————— To get free in depth mini-courses and videos, visit our blog at:  http://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com   Get daily inspiration and plant wisdom on our Facebook and Instagram channels: http://www.facebook.com/EvolutionaryHerbalism https://www.instagram.com/evolutionary_herbalism/   Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyP63opAmcpIAQg1M9ShNSQ   Get a free 5-week course when you buy a copy of the book, Evolutionary Herbalism:https://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com/evolutionary-herbalism-book/   ———————————— ABOUT THE PLANT PATH ———————————— The Plant Path is a window into the world of herbal medicine. • My Top 5 Herbs for Sinusitis
What do you do when you have a sinus infection? It’s painful, it’s tough to breathe, and frankly, it can feel a little scary. Many people would quickly ask for an antibiotic for this situation. This isn’t wrong, but it is possible to treat sinusitis herbally in many cases.    As I discussed in a previous episdoe, I had a sinus infection that wasn’t responding to systemic herbal treatment. I opted to use nasal irrigation with a neti pot, but instead of using the typical saline solution, I added specific herbs. I experienced a swift turnaround in my symptoms, cleared the infection within a few days, and was able to avoid the round of antibiotics my naturopath suggested.   The key to treating sinusitis has everything to do with the herbs you choose, and it has everything to do with delivering those herbs topically to the tissues that need them.  Here’s what you’ll learn in this episode: The five herbs I used to treat sinusitis and why I chose them Why whole herbs are often more effective than isolated constituents The conundrum of antimicrobials: making sense of the terms antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal How different classes of constituents work synergistically against inflammation and infection Practical methods for using these herbs in neti pots and nasal sprays Ecological and energetic perspectives on sinus infections (heat, dampness, atony, etc.) Substitutions for harder-to-procure, expensive, and at-risk herbs   ———————————— CONNECT WITH SAJAH AND WHITNEY ———————————— To get free in depth mini-courses and videos, visit our blog at:  http://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com   Get daily inspiration and plant wisdom on our Facebook and Instagram channels: http://www.facebook.com/EvolutionaryHerbalism https://www.instagram.com/evolutionary_herbalism/   Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyP63opAmcpIAQg1M9ShNSQ   Get a free 5-week course when you buy a copy of the book, Evolutionary Herbalism: https://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com/evolutionary-herbalism-book/   Shop our herbal products:  https://naturasophiaspagyrics.com/   ———————————— ABOUT THE PLANT PATH ———————————— The Plant Path is a window into the world of herbal medicine. • A Practitioner’s Guide to Topical Herbal Remedies
What do you think of when you hear “topical herbs”? Chances are, you think about putting herbs on your skin, perhaps in the form of creams, salves, or poultices.  But this is only one type of topical application.  In herbal medicine, topical use is much broader than applying medicine to the skin (though this is also a critical treatment). Any time an herb comes into direct contact with the tissue it’s meant to treat—whether the skin, or the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract or digestive tract—it is acting topically. Here’s what you’ll learn in this post: The broader definition of topical application, beyond application to the skin How herbs act topically in the respiratory tract, digestive system, female reproductive system, and on the skin Key herbal actions like vulnerary, antimicrobial, demulcent, and more for topical use Preparations for topical use, such as poultices, infused oils, liniments, and medicated neti pots Recommended herbs for each organ system and their unique roles in healing Important cautions and considerations for using topical herbal remedies safely   ———————————— CONNECT WITH SAJAH AND WHITNEY ———————————— To get free in depth mini-courses and videos, visit our blog at:  http://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com   Get daily inspiration and plant wisdom on our Facebook and Instagram channels: http://www.facebook.com/EvolutionaryHerbalism https://www.instagram.com/evolutionary_herbalism/   Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyP63opAmcpIAQg1M9ShNSQ   Get a free 5-week course when you buy a copy of the book, Evolutionary Herbalism: https://www.evolutionaryherbalism.com/evolutionary-herbalism-book/   Shop our herbal products:  https://naturasophiaspagyrics.com/   ———————————— ABOUT THE PLANT PATH ———————————— The Plant Path is a window into the world of herbal medicine.
