  • Moment: 5 Reasons Part-Time Fails, and How to Fix Them
Going part-time might seem like the solution to burnout and imbalance, but without specific strategies in place, it often makes things worse by cutting your pay while you continue working the same hours. We explore why so many part-time arrangements fail and the key skills needed to make flexible work actually work for you.• Holding boundaries is essential - without them, you'll work unpaid hours and experience guilt in both directions• Learning to disconnect mentally prevents work from following you during personal time• Developing focus skills is crucial as workloads rarely decrease proportionally with hours• Emotional awareness helps prevent "vomiting" work stress onto family and friends• Perfectionism and procrastination become even bigger problems with reduced hours• Success in part-time work requires setting guilt-free boundaries around your decisionsIf this resonated with you, share it with a friend who needs to hear it today, and don't forget to subscribe to Balance and Beyond for full episodes and more of these bite-sized breakthroughs.Thank you for joining us today on the Balance and Beyond Podcast. • The Hidden Ways You're Breaking Your Own Boundaries (Even When You Say No)
As you jump into this week’s episode, don’t forget to check out our brand new Boundaries Workshop! Click on the link here to sign up now! https://www.balanceinstitute.com/boundary-workshop-2025"You said no, you blocked the time, you set the boundary, so why are you still resentful and exhausted?"This question cuts to the heart of what many ambitious women experience – the frustration of doing everything "right" in boundary-setting yet still feeling drained. The answer, as we explore in this episode, lies in the subtle yet powerful concept of boundary leaks.Beyond the initial challenge of giving yourself permission to say no, there exists a more advanced level of boundary work that few discuss. We uncover three major ways your energy continues to leak despite setting theoretical boundaries: emotional over-functioning (making sure everyone's okay with your no), over-explaining (defending and justifying your decisions), and incomplete delegation (handing off tasks while still carrying the mental load). These patterns stem from our deep discomfort with allowing others – and ourselves – to experience the natural consequences of our boundaries. We've been conditioned to believe that others' emotional responses are our responsibility, leading us to exhaust ourselves trying to prevent any possible discomfort. The irony? This very effort often creates the burnout we're trying to avoid. What would it look like to break what we call "the sisterhood contract" of female over-functioning? To deliver a no with a period at the end – no apologies, no explanations? To truly delegate not just the task but the outcome? This is where true personal power resides, in choosing authenticity over performance, even when that means embracing the messiness of real boundaries.Ready to move from knowing you should set boundaries to actually holding them with confidence? Check out our boundaries workshop with a bonus "saying no" guide in the show notes to support your journey toward boundaries that actually restore your energy rather than deplete it.To view the Transcript from this week's episode, visit our Balance & Beyond Podcast webpage: https://www.balanceinstitute.com/podcast/2025/101Thank you for joining us today on the Balance and Beyond Podcast. • Moment: The 2 Words That Set Me Free
The phrase "Let them" has been a game changer for recognizing how often we try to control the people we love. These two simple words from Mel Robbins have unlocked tremendous power by revealing how much energy we waste trying to manage others' thoughts, opinions, and behaviors.• Our attempts to control others are often disguised as efficiency, taking charge, or keeping things running• Small moments like a child using too much peanut butter or playing songs on repeat trigger our control impulses• The urge to correct, rescue, fix, and manage others drains enormous amounts of energy• Saying "let them" helps identify where we're trying to control others unnecessarily• The key is to follow up by asking "why do I need them to be different right now?"• Control attempts often reflect us imposing our own values on others• Particularly as women, we leak tremendous energy caring and worrying about others• This practice is about detachment - stopping the control of others and turning the spotlight back on yourselfI've just launched a quiz that uncovers your unique burnout archetype – the pattern driving your exhaustion, guilt and over-responsibility. Find the link in the show notes to take this quick seven-question quiz and discover tailored insights to fix your specific burnout pattern.Thank you for joining us today on the Balance and Beyond Podcast. • What Stole Your Joy (and How to Take it Back)
Remember when you used to laugh until you cried? For many of us, those moments have become increasingly rare. Joy doesn't simply slip away—it gets systematically stripped from our lives without our awareness. This eye-opening exploration reveals the three hidden thieves that have stolen your joy. First, the deeply ingrained belief that joy must be earned after productivity, usefulness, or taking care of everyone else. From childhood messages about finishing homework before play to adult guilt about prioritising pleasure, we've absorbed the toxic idea that joy is frivolous—a reward rather than a necessity. Second, your nervous system has become addicted to stress chemicals, trapping you in a state of hypervigilance where there's simply no room for softness, release, or joy. When you're constantly braced for the next emergency, joy becomes physiologically impossible. Finally, the trap of overachievement masks your joylessness with constant busyness, perfectionism, and the relentless pursuit of external validation. The painful irony? Joy isn't inefficient—it's rocket fuel for high performance, leadership, and magnetism. In our increasingly AI-driven world, your capacity for genuine human emotion is your greatest asset. Joy isn't what happens after you fix everything; it's what allows you to feel alive while everything else is unfolding. Ready to reclaim what's rightfully yours? Join the Return to Radiance 21-day challenge starting June 9th. Through simple, powerful practices in just two minutes daily, you'll reconnect with what makes you feel most alive—no fluff, no pressure, no fakeness. Your journey back to joy starts now.To view the Transcript from this week's episode, visit our Balance & Beyond Podcast webpage: https://www.balanceinstitute.com/podcast/2025/100Thank you for joining us today on the Balance and Beyond Podcast. • Moment: You’re Not Wasting Time, You’re Missing Kairos
The ancient Greeks recognized two types of time that we need for balance—chronos (clock time) and kairos (flow state where time disappears)—but modern society has devalued the latter despite its importance for creativity, fulfillment, and connection.• Chronos is measured, ticking time built around clocks and efficiency• Kairos is deep time or flow state where time collapses and we're fully present• When we emerge from kairos, we always feel great regardless of duration• Society has mistakenly deemed chronos more important, making us feel guilty about kairos time• Hustle culture considers kairos unproductive despite being essential for creativity and connection• As AI increases efficiency, consciously building our "kairos muscle" becomes crucial• Women who only live by chronos without kairos tend to burn out faster• There's a distinction between wasting time (scrolling) and genuine kairos experiences• Intentionally scheduling kairos time (massage, reading, unrushed meals with friends) is necessary• Giving yourself permission is the key mindset shift needed to welcome kairos back into your lifeIf this resonated, share it with a friend who needs to hear it today, and don't forget to subscribe to Balance and Beyond for full episodes and more of these bite-sized breakthroughs.Thank you for joining us today on the Balance and Beyond Podcast.
