In this episode, we explore the psychology of workplaceanxiety during organisational change and what leaders often miss when people respond with resistance, silence, frustration, cynicism, withdrawal or disengagement.
When roles change, organisational structures are redesigned, processes are replaced and new skills are expected, people are not simply being asked to “embrace change.” They are being asked to navigate uncertainty, loss, identity, capability and trust.
We explore:
🔹 Why anxiety can look like resistance
🔹What is really happening when people push back against change
🔹How leaders can recognise hidden fear and uncertainty
🔹Why “Don’t worry, you’ll be fine” can make things worse
🔹How to have better conversations about anxiety at work
🔹The role of psychological safety, trust and control
🔹How leaders can reduce cognitive overload during transformation
🔹How to help people build confidence in new roles and skills
🔹When a leader should support, escalate or seek specialist help
The leadership question is not: “How do I get people tostop resisting?”
It is:
“What is creating the threat, what do they need tounderstand, and what can I help them control?”
If you lead organisational change, transformation, restructuring, digital change, culture change or teams going through uncertainty, this conversation is for you.

Scope of Episode: EP 033 Part 2 of 2
Listen to Part 2 of our discussion with the incredible: Head of School Mr John Player from “The Stanway School” that took the brave leap to participate in a Channel UK Documentary " Swiped: The School That Banned SmartPhones".
We are continuing to now see various heart breaking, concerning and worrying TV documentaries, TV programs or News highlighting the real adverse impact of our children being on-line due to the different inappropriate things children can easily access on line such as pornography, x-rated games, bulling on social media etc, unintentionally but due to the “algorithm” which is determined by the Tech Companies such as Tik-Tok, Facebook (meta), Youtube, Instagram etc.
The consequences are severe and alarming. Do we need thetech and social media companies to take more accountability? Or is it down to us as parents to take the initiative?
The more the children spend time online, the less time they have to develop their soft skills which are fundamental to their success both at home and school as they grow into adults.
The children of today are our tomorrow’s leaders and softskills are essential to effective leadership and success but somehow, we are allowing technology and AI to slowly and gradually diminish these essential skills.
We focus on the following for Part 2 in this episode:
1. The impact on the children and parents
2. The impact and changes that the school has had to make
3. How the Government can help with regulation?
4. What can we as adult/parents/responsible adults do to raise awareness of this issue to keep it on the Government priority agenda to put in place policies and regulations that force Tech companies to take more accountability and protect our children?
5. Lesson learnt with the students, parents and teachers #highs and #lowsEP 032 Part 1: The School That Banned Smart Phones I The Stanway School l Conversation Continued
