GOSPEL THIS WEEKEND

Perhaps make some important decisions now. Not so that it's too hard or too easy, but even reflect on the last few weeks of Lent. What does it look like Jesus is trying to do in your life, so that in three weeks time, you will be ready to celebrate the season of the resurrection, which isn't just about experiencing a banquet or relaxation of penances, but is meant to be a time of interior conversion, where Jesus makes you transformed to live more in his presence.

Jesus' example shows us, again, that the solution to division and disagreement is compassion, respect, listening, healing, and lovingly being open to the fullness of vision, and doesn't stand on narrow refusal to have a meeting of mind and heart.

May the light of Christ expose all those dark and false areas of our lives, things that distract and misdirect us, things that lead us away from the light of God's love, lead us away from the self-forgetting service of Christ. After all, this is our calling, this is the gift God gives us, and this is our final destiny, to be with God in Jesus, who is light from light.

There's more than a sense that this army of angels comes to support their king in this first of his many victories and give him what he needs, which Jesus knew would be provided by his Father, and not from rash acts of willfulness, pride or force

Faith, Hope and Love, the first day of the season of Lent, Ash Wednesday.

It's the source of lasting truth. So let's make this time of Lent the wonderful joy-filled gift that it really is, a time of peaceful self-denial and making space for God, fostering positive habits that will last well beyond 40 days, and may God, who has begun this good work in us, bring it to perfection in the secret of our own hearts.
