MVP: Blessed Be God: A Reflection on Loss, Suffering, and God's Will
In Happy, Holy Mama this week we are diving into the concept of becoming happier through learning how to suffer well. And when I was thinking about what I wanted to share on the podcast to support my students in that process, I couldn’t stop thinking about an episode I released last year for the 20th anniversary of my first husband’s passing. I had already experienced quite a bit of suffering in my life prior to becoming a 20 year old widow, but that experience took what I thought I knew about suffering to an entirely new level. It also showed me what I was capable of. And more importantly, it showed me what God is capable of through my fidelity to unifying my will to His will for my life, regardless of how difficult the circumstances might be. This skill is vital for our happiness, not just in eternity, but right now in this life that God is knitting together for us, with our cooperation, moment by moment. I am honored to share my experience, knowledge, and training as a life coach with my students in the program to teach them how to do this for themselves on a daily basis! And I am honored to share my story again with you here today, as we go into Holy Week and suffer with Christ on calvary, in our day-to-day lives. Respnsibility
Where do you draw the line between what’s your job and what is your child’s responsibility? That line gets blurred when you’re a (normal) mom who is concerned about your child’s growth, education, emotional maturing, spiritual development, and preparation for the future. It’s so much! Unfortunately, if that worry leads you to hyperfocusing, micromanaging, and/or stewing about their behavior, work ethic, or grades, then you’re probably not loving homeschooling right now and may even be considering other options for next year. If your heart wants to enjoy your motherhood and homeschooling journey with more peace and surrender, please grab your earbuds and join me for: Responsibility. Forgiveness
Are any of your relationships feeling challenging right now? Maybe a relationship with one (or more) of your children is feeling particularly strained. Or maybe you and your husband aren’t quite on the same page, and you can see the impact that’s having on the rest of interactions with other people. Or, perhaps, you get so mad at yourself that it can be hard to know how to be around other people. Here’s the thing: when your relationships are feeling stuck, then everything else feels harder. Which is why right now, in the middle of Lent, is the perfect time to pause and reflect on what might be keeping those relationships stuck. Sure, the other person might have some work to do, but since that’s not within your control, then it’s not much use focusing on how to get them to change. Instead, please grab your earbuds and join me for today’s episode where I offer a slightly new perspective on a vital piece to improving any relationship: Forgiveness. Ready to take the work deeper? 3 Steps to Improving Your Own Behavior
I spent so many years of my motherhood focused on changing other people’s behavior that at one point I looked at myself in the mirror and didn’t recognize the woman looking back at me. Who was this person who felt out of control, unhappy, and stuck? How on earth was I supposed to change myself when it seemed like the whole world, especially my children, were out to thwart my best efforts? After years of healing work in my relationships with myself and with God, I am finally able to answer those questions. But not just for myself, I have answered those questions in a way that I can teach you how to do it for yourself, too I’d like to invite you to please grab your earbuds and join me for a short and sweet episode to give you three tangible steps to take today to improve your own behavior.
