  • Understanding how a child becomes a target | Interview with Anna Sonoda
In this episode, Jeremy speaks with Anna Sonoda, author of Duck Duck Groom, about how grooming works and how adults—not children—must be empowered to recognize and interrupt it. Drawing from her experience working with sexual offenders, Anna explains the four stages of grooming—flattery, favoritism, forbidden fruits, and fear—and emphasizes that grooming is intentional, gradual, and observable. The conversation focuses on the need for adult education, strong communication with children, and community-wide action to prevent abuse before it happens.Anna's bio.Anna Sonoda, an Emory University graduate with degrees in Anthropology and French Studies, earned her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Georgia in 2006 and became a licensed clinician in 2009. With experience counseling sexual offenders, working in mental health settings, and providing anger management and domestic violence treatment, she developed a deep understanding of grooming behaviors. This led her to write Duck Duck Groom: Understanding How a Child Becomes a Target (2022) and Duck Duck Groom: A Guided Journal, offering resources for prevention and survivor healing.Anna's links.Website: https://annasonoda.comBook: https://www.amazon.com/stores/author/B0BYK4LV4QBelow are my links Website: https://jeremyindika.comPodcast: https://shows.acast.com/the-something-to-say-podcastSomething to Say: https://somethingtosayofficial.comTo supportMerchandise: https://somethingtosayofficial.comPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/SomethingtoSayDonate: https://jeremyindika.com/donate/Social mediaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeremyindika/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jeremyindika1Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeremyindikaX: https://x.com/jeremyindikaLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeremy-indika-31673573/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@JeremyIndikaPodcast: https://shows.acast.com/the-something-to-say-podcastSomething to Say linksInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/somethingtosayofficial/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/somethingtosayofficial1LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/something-to-say1TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@somethingtosayofficialYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@SomethingtoSayofficialPodcast: https://shows.acast.com/the-something-to-say-podcast-1 Hosted on Acast. • I've recorded my session to teachers - please can I have your opinion on it please?
To book me for your school - https://jeremyindika.com/speaker-event/Many will disagree with me doing this. But with so many schools saying they’re worried to bring me in to speak to teachers because of what I might say or how far I might push the boundaries, I’ve decided to post a full recording online, so everyone can see exactly what I’m doing. This comes with a risk (potentially) because now schools can watch it online instead of booking me.But, everyone knows that this should be done in person because of the audience interaction and participation that I generate and I have faith that the schools see that too. • Uncle Brian made me feel special at 13-years old | How the grooming process can work on teenagers
“If you liked it at the time, then you can’t grow into an adult and change your mind when you look back at it” - is what I’ve seen many sections of society say.And they’re not shy. They comment on my posts from time to time.Their view (from what I’ve seen) is that if a teenager flirts and involves themselves at the time, then they know what they’re doing and can’t label it as abusive and exploitative when they’re older. This is a massive misunderstanding and I explain why as I review Leila’s brave story in my podcast. This is very important, links below.Original video: https://youtu.be/PLARjisxolI?si=waOJAwvS1QmkbqCiPlease support us over at @somethingtosayofficial with running costs at - https://jeremyindika.com/donate/To connect with Leila and buy her book; Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/leilalala07/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/leila.ivesBook: https://amzn.eu/d/jcCEq8eSomething to Say linksInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/somethingtosayofficial/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/somethingtosayofficial1LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/something-to-say1TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@somethingtosayofficialYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@SomethingtoSayofficialPodcast: https://shows.acast.com/the-something-to-say-podcast-1Below are my links Website: https://jeremyindika.comPodcast: https://shows.acast.com/the-something-to-say-podcastSomething to Say: https://somethingtosayofficial.comTo supportMerchandise: https://somethingtosayofficial.comPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/SomethingtoSayDonate: https://jeremyindika.com/donate/Social mediaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeremyindika/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jeremyindika1Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeremyindikaX: https://x.com/jeremyindikaLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeremy-indika-31673573/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@JeremyIndikaPodcast: https://shows.acast.com/the-something-to-say-podcast Hosted on Acast.
