As part of this channel's effort to explore the theme of religion and resistance and to understand the Islamic resistance confronting US-Israeli empire, Adna speaks with scholar, translator, and historian of Islamic political movements, Mujamma Haraket. We explore the emergence of the Islamic Resistance in Palestine and its roots in anticolonial era and Muslim Brotherhood organizing in previous decades. In particular, Mujamma dispells myths and exposes their particular use to discredit Hamas by examining the source of contentions that Israel created or supported its "as a counterweight" to the secular nationalist PLO movement. This revealing and illuminating historical analysis based on careful assessment of the evidence and documentation. We also discuss the use of collaborationist gangs in Gaza and their Salafist or more properly "Madkhalist" Islamist orientations meant to undermine the resistance. A fascinating and learned discussion with an expert scholar.

Helyeh Doutaghi from Tehran and Bikrum Gill join me to discuss the haunting and powerful series "Still Minab" and its first two episodes. Helyeh's documentary absorbs the first part of our discussion about narrating and expressing the truth outside of the colonial and imperial framework. Then Adnan and Bikrum reflect on the wider significance of Iran's defiant position against the imperialist world system, revolutionary Shi'i theology and Islam as a vanguard of anti-imperialist resistance, and the fundamental question of sovereignty. In this era, the most active forces combating colonialism and imperialism are the "Axis of Resistance" in West Asia. Since October 7th, many have been either inspired or puzzled by the incomparable endurance of the Palestinian people and their heroic resistance to invasion, occupation, and genocidal violence. In both cases religious faith in Islam has proven of incalculable value to them as well as to resistance in Yemen, Lebanon, and Iran. Adnan speaks with writer, blogger and co-host of Resistance is Fertile Podcast, Indi (at Indi.ca) about his study of the Qur'an, Muslim scripture, as a way of understanding the Islamic resistance and current events. Although not a Muslim, he frequently cites the Qur'an in his own anti-imperialist writings and analysis as a source for understanding. We explore together the Qur'an as geopolitical analysis on the topics of war, peace, negotiations, and steadfastness against oppression.

Full Audio of YT Livestream: This livestream collaboration with Lara Sheehi and Psychic Militancy discusses an important document "Toward a Revolutionary Charter for Comprehensive Liberation" released recently that takes an adamant and uncompromising critique of contemporary Arab intelligentsias and calls for a radical realignment against colonial knowledges and with the masses. This is a critical juncture in West Asia; the convulsions of the Gaza genocide, the war on Iran, and the reshaping of its political boundaries, economies and societies in violent colonial war and resistance demand that all social groupings and classes address themselves to revolutionary anticolonial struggle. Lara and I speak with one of the authors of this radical manifesto, Dr. Ghassan Abu Sittah, the famous Palestinian surgeon, academic, activist, and Rector of Glasgow University in Scotland. We'll take up the questions of why "pessimism of the intellect" has not been accompanied by "optimist of the will" among the intellectual classes, the manifestations of "defeatist" and comprador thought, and how to revive the courageous role of intellectuals organically in the people's struggle as a resource for liberation. Centered on the question of Palestine but addressed to the wider Arab peoples confronting Zionism, colonialism, and imperialism, the conversation will explore the document's six key principles and concepts like rooted knowledge, intellectual sovereignty, democratizing knowledge and how ideology can be turned into a material force for liberation.
