    Supervision or super-vision?

    04/2/2026 | 39 mins.
In episode 4, we ask, "how is supervision like having super-vision?".  We discuss some of the elements surrounding the element, "we can’t afford it". And finally we discuss the question of the week is - "why are you telling me this?". Do you, dear listener, think it is a helpful one or not?
We also hear about Nina's revenge bedtime procrastination, Caboodles or Cavoodles, Ken's dad joke and the idea of supervision for each life or ministry stage.
We also mention this book quite a bit - JR Clintin, The Making of a Leader.  You can find more about it here.

    A curated conversation

    28/1/2026 | 24 mins.
In episode 3 we discuss, "what’s the gift for a 42nd wedding anniversary?", "how is supervision a curated conversation?" and "is supervision Biblical?".  We also ask, "when do you feel at your best?". Clearly not all of our conversation was supervision related, though perhaps important none-the-less. You be the judge of that one.

If you're unsure which circle Nina was talking about in her curation of a supervision sessions, that was the Reflective Learning model by Allyson Davys & Liz Beddoe. You can find out more information about it in their book  Best Practise in Professional Supervision. It is based on Kolb's learning cycle, and mentioned at the end of the podcast was Ken's interest in the Kairos circle which has a similar movement but is from discipleship theory rather than supervision and adult learning theory. To find out more, the Kairos circle or Learning circle (3dm) is from chapter 6 of the book Building a Discipling Culture by Mike Breen.  For the cliff notes version, see here.

    Supervision, a benign violation??

    21/1/2026 | 22 mins.
In Episode 2 Ken, Nathan and Nina ask, "How is supervision a benign violation?" We examine another myth: "Is supervision touchy-feely?" And finally we discuss the question, "With whom have you enjoyed spending time?" and why it's a relevant question for supervision.
We also hear about the secret Ken didn't want you to know, and the apparent ease of wallpapering.

    I'm too busy for Supervision

    14/1/2026 | 29 mins.
Are you in supervision? Do you even know what it is? In The Supervision Sessions, three professional supervisors explore what supervision is, bust some myths, ask some commonly used questions you will hear during a supervision session and generally have a good time together.  Listen in to their conversation over the next five episodes.  Podcasts released weekly.

Hi, we're Nathan Hughes, Ken Shelley and Nina Harris.  In Episode 1 we explore, "what do we mean when we use the word supervision? How is it different from other ‘helping’ disciplines?". We ask "what is re-framing? Why is it so helpful?".  We examine the possibly held myth: “I’m too busy for supervision”. And finally we explore, "what’s the problem with obligation?".
Extra's for experts: Which generation of gaming do you relate to? Do you know which Winnie the Pooh character represents your denomination?
