Every year I feel that people believe everyone should feel joyful, connected, celebratory, and full. For some, the season is filled with laughter, family gatherings, shared meals and traditions and for other it carries grief, loss, change and empty chair. If this Christmas feels tender to you. You are not broken, behind or alone. Sometimes the bravest thing we can do at a time like this is to simply keep our hearts open in the midst of change. Christmas invites us into connection, not just with others, but most importantly with ourselves. Place one drop of essential oils into your palms and then rub them together, place over your heart and belly and take three deep breaths. Use frankincense for peace, perspective, and spiritual connection. Lavender to calm the nervous system. Orange for lightness and joy. Sandalwood for grounding, safety and deep presence and rose, if you need pure love and heart healing. Christmas isn’t just about perfection. This season isn’t asking you to be more. It is inviting you to be true. Love the people you have, remember those you miss, celebrate what is growing and honour you beautiful soul and the incredible resilience that lives within you.   SELF LOVE PODCAST SPONSOR LINKS THANKYOU FOR LISTENING… If you would like to share your feedback on this podcast please head to my Facebook and Instagram pages below. SLP 542: Drowning Lifeguards: Listening to the Body with Ruth Hull

    22/12/2025 | 1h 6 mins.

In this deeply nourishing conversation, Kim welcomes Ruth Hull, a former investment banker turned reflexologist, homeopath, and author of Drowning Lifeguards. Ruth shares her remarkable journey from high pressure corporate life to natural therapies, shaped by her own experience with chronic fatigue and burnout. Together, Kim and Ruth explore the body’s subtle language, the emotional roots of fatigue, and how modalities such as reflexology, homeopathy, essential oils, and self-reflection can support healing. They discuss the integration of conventional and alternative medicine, the unique traits of high-achieving individuals prone to burnout, and why self-love is not a destination, but a daily, living practice. This episode is a powerful reminder that illness can be an invitation to slow down, listen deeply, and reconnect with the wisdom of the body, mind and soul. About Ruth Hull: Trained as a homoeopathic doctor, Ruth Hull is a counsellor, integrative health consultant and author who has spent more than twenty-five years helping people navigate fatigue, burnout and chronic exhaustion. With master’s degrees in counselling and health science, she brings a gentle and grounded approach to healing, weaving together trauma informed therapy, natural health and practical, realistic support. Her work centres on helping people understand their bodies, reconnect with themselves and rebuild their energy in ways that feel achievable and sustainable. She is the author of five widely used health science textbooks, including three on anatomy and physiology, and her new book Drowning Lifeguards offers a practical and compassionate guide for anyone feeling overwhelmed or depleted. Through both her writing and her clinical work she aims to make healing feel less overwhelming and more human. Her definition of Self Love is: Self Love is like a relationship. It’s what you do. It’s the actions you do. If you think of a really good relationship, it us about always being there for that person. So always being there for yourself, supporting yourself, standing up for yourself. Accepting yourself just as you are. Her favourite quote is – Illness is an opportunity for growth and transformation, whilst recovery is just a return to the obsolete status quo. That is when I started to really learn what healing is really about. I wrote my book, Drowning Lifeguards, which is the book I wish I had had when I was struggling so much. We are not just physical beings. We are energetic beings. We are made up of energy and energy needs to flow. Reflexology will one day be proven through science but to me it is really about the flow of energy. The body never lies. The physical body is really just an expression of something much deeper, like our emotions, our spirit, our soul and our mental health. I think what we are learning is unlearning that is we are learning to remove those barriers that we have grown up with. I think we see life through spectacles and we have lots of spectacles that are put on us from our parents, our teachers, who are mean to us, from the kids in the playground. We put all these little glasses on and they stop us seeing life as it is and they stop us connecting with deeper things. I very much believe, especially with essentials oils. We have to remove our logical mind. A lot of the healing happens through the smell and memories If we can get our logical mind out the way and let the body speak that is when we will find what is good for us. If you can stop listening to all the noise outside and actually just get quiet and find what feels good. The quieter we get, the more we hear. The more you just allow yourself to be with yourself, the more you will be able to listen to your body. People with fatigue and burnout are busy, busy, busy people. They are not listening to themselves. If they were to just stop and start listening to what they really need, that is when the healing takes place. No one really knows yet how homeopathy works but there is so much clinical evidence. Like treats like. Vaccination is a personal choice. There is no right or wrong way. If we believe something to be truly safe or ok, then our body potentially can respond in a safe and good way. I think allopathic medicine shines in emergency medicine and homeopathy shines in chronic disease. I think we can work together. In a consultation we look at the whole person, we ask a lot of questions about their background and childhood. We ask about stress and diet. We put everything together and find a remedy that will suit that whole person. Drowning Lifeguards is for the people who look after other people and put themselves last until they are drowning and have no energy to swim. What is the fatigue protecting you from. I put in everything I have learned along the way and everything I try to work through with my client. Illness in our body is our soul trying to tell us something. If we listen, we change, transform and grow.   SELF LOVE PODCAST SPONSOR LINKS THANKYOU FOR LISTENING… If you would like to share your feedback on this podcast please head to my Facebook and Instagram pages below. SLP 541: Self Love Quicky - Year of the Snake to the Year of the Fire Horse

    17/12/2025 | 11 mins.

In this week’s Quicky Kim focuses on the transition from the Year of the Snake to the Year of the Fire Horse in 2026, exploring the symbolic meanings and numerological significance of these astrological shifts. Kim shares insights about using essential oils, rituals, and meditation practices to anchor this powerful threshold, emphasising the importance of balancing stillness and momentum while trusting inner wisdom. Kim shares motivational guidance about embracing self-love and confidence as you prepare for the new year, with particular emphasis on releasing old patterns and harnessing the transformative energy of the fire horse. All the essential oils mentioned in this show can be found at www.twenty8.com. Don’t forget to use your Self Love Podcast special code below. Links to follow: Website: https://twenty8.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/twenty.8.essential/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/twenty8essentials Quotes: We are standing at a powerful threshold, moving from the year of the snake into the bold, fiery momentum of the year of the fire horse. It is a shift in how we live, how we lead, and how we listen. The snake is the wise one. It doesn’t rush, it doesn’t seek approval, it sheds what no longer fits. The year of the snake has invited us into deep inner work. Listening to our intuition, releasing outdated identities, and honouring the wisdom stored in the body. Many of us have been asked to let go this year, not because we have failed, but because we have evolved. The snake whispers, you don’t need to force clarity, you just need to trust it. Have you been listening to yourself? Favourite oils for releasing and to tap into the power of my own intuition include Frankincense, Myrrh, Sandalwood, and Vetiver. I release what no longer serves. I trust my inner knowing. I honour the wisdom within. The fire horse moves boldly forward. Where the snake asked you to reflect, the Fire Horse asks will you act? I think 2026 is about courage, action, visibility, and leadership through embodiment and living your truth out loud. Oils that activate horse energy include ginger, sweet orange, cedarwood and cinnamon. I move forward with courage, my energy is focused and grounded, I lead with heart not force. A blend that bridges the two would be frankincense, sandalwood, ginger and orange. I act from wisdom, not fear. I trust my timing, and I honour both stillness and momentum. The snake prepared you. The fire horse activates you. You are not here to dim your fire. We invite you to move wisely, courageously and consciously. This is about being consciously aware of calm power.   SELF LOVE PODCAST SPONSOR LINKS THANKYOU FOR LISTENING… If you would like to share your feedback on this podcast please head to my Facebook and Instagram pages below. SLP 540: From Existing to Living : Millie Thomas’ Journey with Anorexia

    15/12/2025 | 1h 16 mins.

In this powerful conversation, Kim Morrison sits down with Millie Thomas, an eating disorder recovery coach, to share Millie’s raw and deeply personal story of surviving and fully recovering from a 15 year battle with anorexia nervosa. Millie takes us back to her teenage years in Auckland, where perfectionism, control, and pressure became fertile ground for the illness. Despite academic achievement and outward success, she describes the inner torment, the escalating compulsions, and the heartbreaking moment at 27 when her doctor asked her to decide whether she wanted to live or die. A turning point came through unconventional but deeply human support including work with Silky, an NLP practitioner, who helped Millie reframe the disorder as a set of changeable behaviours and begin the courageous climb back to life. Kim and Millie explore the reality that eating disorders are biopsychosocial illnesses that infiltrate every corner of a person’s world and profoundly affect families too. Millie speaks candidly about the impact on her parents and brother, the role of hope, and why recovery requires compassion and boundaries. Together they unpack how the eating disorder “voice” distorts language and meaning, why “just eat” is not only unhelpful but misunderstands the terror response, and how the recovery journey can feel chaotic while actually being a reclaiming of control. Millie also shares how her lived experience fuelled her mission: moving to the Sunshine Coast, contributing to broader support pathways (including involvement in residential recovery approaches), and building her private practice HealED, supporting clients worldwide. The episode closes with practical insight for carers and loved ones, and introduces Millie’s Hope & Healing Affirmation Cards. A purpose built resource designed specifically to support eating disorder recovery with grounded, relevant language. About Millie: Millie Thomas is a Carolyn Costin Institute Certified Eating Disorder Recovery Coach and a Neuro-Linguistic Programming Practitioner. She battled Anorexia Nervosa for 15 years and very nearly lost her life to the illness. She was given up on by her treatment team and told to consider palliative care options. Her miraculous recovery was a catalyst for a complete career change. She left her hometown of Auckland, New Zealand and moved to her ‘happy place’ – the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. Where she became determined to use her lived experience to help bring eating disorders out of the shadows and into the light. She dedicates her time to eating disorder advocacy and eating disorder recovery coaching. She helps clients around the world to gain freedom from their eating disorders and reclaim their lives. Millie has her private practice HealED and for several years she also worked with Sunshine Coast based charity endED where she was involved in numerous projects including the establishment of Australia’s first residential eating disorders facility ‘Wandi Nerida’. She believes that no matter how long or how hard someone’s journey with an eating disorder has been full recovery is always possible; she is living proof of that. Her definition of Self Love is: Self-love, for me, is giving myself grace while holding hope. Never giving up on myself and choosing to live, not just exist. Her favourite quote is from: Ralph Waldo Emerson- To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. Real success in life is being the kind of person who makes others feel safe enough to be themselves — exactly as they are. Up until then I had no conception about my body other than what it allowed me to do. I had all personality characteristics that predisposed someone to anorexia. I still had all the thoughts, I had the same brain but different body. I felt I had to pretend that I was doing well. I was existing but not truly living. You might be weight restored but you actually need to be heart restored. Perfectionism can look like an asset, but at that point in my life it was a liability. It was toxic. The need to always do better, it is never enough. I looked happy in all the photos from Ibiza and France, but I was miserable. I was living with a demon in my head. My GP looked at me with tears in his eyes and said, ‘I need you to decide whether you want to live or you want to die because I need to know how to proceed with how we care for you. There was no peace, every single thing that I did I was punished or tortured for. The only way I could I see myself being at peace was being above the world looking down and up from a far. I had vicious voices in my head telling me these horrible things are going to happen if you don’t do this. It is like another force that I can’t even describe. Silky told me, you don’t have an eating disorder. It is something you do, a behaviour that has become a habit and behaviours can be changed. This was the moment when I thought she is right. It was a real sense of empowerment. I thought, if I die now, I will never know what it’s like to live. I felt I owed it to myself to give life a go. If I really hated it that much, on the other side I could always go back. It was the most excruciating, tortuous time of my life. It brought me to my knees, but it also opened the world back up to me. I put one foot in front of the other every single day and I did it. I gained the weight, and I moved on with my life. Recovery felt like standing on the edge of a cliff . Terrifying, unknown, but also strangely liberating. I talk about the 3 C’s which is conscious, consistent and commitment. My eating disorder was consciously, consistently committed to ruining my life hence I had to be consciously, consistently committed to reclaiming my life back. I often thought to myself as I was kicking and screaming on the floor in the middle of recovery “Why me?” What is the reason for this. This was the reason. I was here to use my story and turn my pain into my purpose and create change. Those 15 years were a living hell but without them, I wouldn’t be here now, helping people find freedom, and for that I am forever grateful. People can get well. It is not something you have to battle for the rest of your life with the right support. I knew lived experience was gold. It is the lived experience that helps me to help my clients in a compassionate way. Everything I do now comes from having been there. You can’t bullshit a bullshitter when you have lived it. There was a period where my brother disowned me and said, ‘If you don’t get rid of this illness, I’m out”. Even then, all I cared about was being skinny. I didn’t care if I lost my brother. I was so far down the rabbit hole that it was like water off a duck’s back and that still frightens me to this day. When I think about the possibility that I may never have been an Auntie that breaks my heart. Unless you have lived it as a family, you cannot even begin to imagine how wild that ride is. Eating disorders prey on perfectionism. That black and white thinking of ‘you must do this’ or something terrible will happen. The voice told me every single day, if you do XYZ, you will be happy for the rest of your life. I fell for that spell. Hook, line and sinker. That if I had the perfect body, everything else would fall into place. You think you are in control, but really the eating disorder is in the driver’s seat. Recovery feels like losing control completely but it is actually you taking the control back. As morbid as it sounds, the eating disorder’s goal is to kill you. That is its motive. One of the most important things is to always hold hope. Approach it with love, compassion and non judgement but also have boundaries and encourage them to reach for a different life. Every single time you ask them to be included, they realise they still matter in the world. Connection is key. There was not one aspect of my life that was not affected by my eating disorder. If you can help someone get out of their head and into their heart, piece by piece, bit by bit, that is what helps them keep going.   SELF LOVE PODCAST SPONSOR LINKS THANKYOU FOR LISTENING… If you would like to share your feedback on this podcast please head to my Facebook and Instagram pages below. SLP 539: Self Love Quicky - The Power of Being the Observer

    10/12/2025 | 12 mins.

In this weeks Quicky of the Self-Love Podcast, Kim explores the importance of developing observation skills as a tool for personal growth, discussing how stepping back from emotional triggers can lead to better understanding and management of one’s emotions. She delves into scientific concepts like pattern interrupts and neuroplasticity, sharing practical techniques such as the “observer breath” and sensory rituals to help manage emotional responses and create new neural pathways. Kim shares insights on becoming an observer of one’s thoughts and emotions, emphasising the value of self reflection and emotional detachment for personal growth and self-improvement. All the essential oils mentioned in this show can be found at www.twenty8.com. Don’t forget to use your Self Love Podcast special code below. Links to follow: Website: https://twenty8.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/twenty.8.essential/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/twenty8essentials Quotes: One of the most empowering skills any one of us can develop is learning to be the observer. What if we practised zooming out and becoming the observer? Stepping back from the emotional charge and watching the moment with curiosity rather than judgement. It is like rising above the scene, seeing yourself and the other person from a higher vantage point. Triggers activate neural pathways that have often been strengthened for years. When we pause, we get an opportunity to break that automatic loop. This is neuroplasticity in action. Your brain rewiring itself through awareness. Even a three second pause can shift your physiology from fight or flight into rest and digest. When you pause, when you become the observer, when you zoom out, observation opens the door to transformation. I call it the zoom out breathe. Take one, slow deep inhalation and take a step back or upwards, as if you are watching the scene. Name what’s happening: Say to yourself ‘I’m noticing this activation or trigger.’” This shifts you from being in the emotion to actually observing it. Ask yourself: What does the best version of me choose next? Is this really true? Another thing I like to say in my head is, ‘Wow, that’s interesting.’ Anchor through sensory rituals. Essential oils like lavender, neroli, frankincense or your favourite Twenty8 blend can create a physical anchor. Celebrate the pause. You are literally reshaping and rewiring your brain. These micro victories of not reacting can compound into deep embodied change. Becoming the observer isn’t about detaching. It is about holding yourself with compassion. When you observe your thoughts and emotions without becoming them, you truly gain true freedom. Self love isn’t something you just feel. It is something you practise in these exact moments you are tempted to react.   SELF LOVE PODCAST SPONSOR LINKS THANKYOU FOR LISTENING… If you would like to share your feedback on this podcast please head to my Facebook and Instagram pages below.
