    363. Being Open to Change w/ Nikki West

    23/06/2026 | 52 mins.
In today's episode Nikki West joins me to share her training journey. Nikki started training under a Caesar Milan mentor and was excited to get started but slowly started to realize the holes and fallout of that style of training. Nikki then learned from a more traditional obedience trainer. She dove into that style of training including using pinch collars and e collars. After using those tools for a few years she started to see the negative effects and abusive that was happening and made a change.

Nikki took it upon herself to learn and research to find a more kind, compassionate, and ethical approach to training. Nikki now chooses to train without punishment or pinch collars and e collars. Nikki shares how transformative her new approach has been and how her personal dogs and clients are thriving.

    362. Crate Training, Cruel or Essential?

    09/06/2026 | 23 mins.
Dogs being crated for hours on end without proper care and training can absolutely be cruel. Dogs who have slowly learned how to settle and rest in a crate for reasonable hours of times is not. In today's episode I share the nuances of crate/confinement training. I share my suggestions for age appropriate crate training, how sometimes crate training can be a means to an end and sometimes it is life long. I also share how to teach dogs to cope with being confined in spaces in your home for their own safety.

    359. Training for Flexibility

    21/04/2026 | 18 mins.
So much of traditional dog training advice encourages you to be regimented and strict with your dogs training. To do things the same every time so your dog knows what to do. In today's episode I challenge that idea. Our lives are not always the same, our dogs' motivations are not the same at every moment of every day. What really works in our real lives is to train behaviors that can be flexible with the variability of our lives.
