  • Ep. 592: Hating the Same Things
Apparently, hating the same things is the mark of a great friendship. It makes sense—misery does love company. There’s something so freeing about getting to be the worst version of yourself in front of your friends and not only to be accepted, but for your base-level feelings to be validated. Life will always be full of some holier-than-thou-Kathys who “hate” gossip and find it “beneath” them, but Kathy is a bitch anyways and we have so much more fun hating her pretentious ass than she could ever imagine. No one is perfect all the time, and when we hate together, our friendships thrive. Seems like a win-win to us.The utility of gossip [0:59]Getting your hatred off your chest [3:09]Misery loves company [5:34]We hate Costco [7:56]Bonding over the things you love [9:24]Sand up the vagina [13:14]Letting your friends see the worst side of you [19:34]Some holier-than-thou people [24:44]We all have moments that aren’t our best [28:47]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Letters to hear about Danny’s Peru triphttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! • Ep. 591: Danny-J Went to Burning Man
Yeah, you read that title correctly. Danny-J went to the infamous Burning Man festival. We’ve been skeptics for years, but curiosity finally won out, and we wish we could say it was a great experience. Burning Man was fine, but there may or may not have been some unexpected bumps along the way. People always say, “you don’t get the Burn you want, you get the Burn you need,” but that’s left us with more questions than answers. Burning Man’s Reputation [1:52]Getting to Burning Man [7:46]Stuck in jail [16:20]The sights and sounds [17:41]Nextdoor to the orgy tent [23:39]Drugs passed from mouth to mouth [25:51]Not the Burn you want, the Burn you need [28:44]Freedom and non-judgement [30:38]A fine experience [34:50]Getting a call from jail [36:08]Hitting rock bottom [39:58]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Letters to hear about Danny’s Peru triphttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! • Ep. 590: You Did This To Yourself
We’ve lived enough life by now to know that shame is never helpful. Sometimes when bad things happen to us as a result of our choices, some asshole hits us with the, “well, you did this to yourself.” No shit, Sherlock. Just because our choices led to less than desirable outcomes, doesn’t mean we can’t feel bad about it. Shaming anyone for the things they did or didn’t do won’t rewrite the past, and it certainly doesn’t make them feel better. Shaming someone like that only makes them hate you. And it’s always easy to judge people’s misfortunes until one day, you’ll have some misfortune of your own. There are no lessons [2:02]How we’re stretching our brains [4:09]Mountain biking, in the jungle [8:52]The tedium of running [11:36]You did this to yourself [15:48]Shame doesn’t help anyone [21:44]Holding space for others and yourself [25:00]Looking for validation of our choices [26:57]It’s hard to hate up close [30:37]Balancing accountability [33:07]It’s all the luck of the draw [35:48]People will judge anything [38:13]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Letters to hear about Danny’s Peru triphttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! • Ep. 589: Jill's Final Fiesta
Our Jill is getting married 🥹 If you’ve been a listener from the beginning, you’ll know what a big deal this is and just how proud we are. To celebrate Jill’s Final Fiesta (IYKYK), Danny-J planned a wild bachelorette trip in Cabo. And by wild, we mean incredibly tame and everyone was in bed by 10. No, really. Life may not look how we thought it would in our 20’s and 30’s, but we’re so happy everything ended up the way it did. Danny joined a calisthenics gym [5:89]Going to bed early is the best [5:38]Jill’s bachelorette weekend [6:41]A chill spa day with friends [10:46]The pros of a small, intimate group [13:32]Feeling like a burden for asking people to travel [15:51]Drinking in our 40’s [19:52] Planning out the little details [23:16]A weekend without men [26:41]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Letters to hear about Danny’s Peru triphttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode! • Ep. 588: Why We Love Procrastinating and Hate Soap
Much love and respect to the Gen Z hustlers out there, but that couldn’t be us. Maybe we’re getting lazy, or maybe we’re getting old, but either way, we don’t want to work anymore unless we absolutely have to. Life is too damn long—you can’t sprint this marathon! We’re too busy worrying about our parents getting crazy and the fact that bar soap is gross. We were more ambitious in our 20’s [2:20]Needing a deadline to get shit done [6:20]Enjoy the slow seasons [8:48]You can’t sprint a marathon [10:52]Our productivity tools [13:13]No toothpaste, no deodorant, no soap [16:58]Irish spring soap and lucky charms [21:01]The weird fall-out after loss [22:51]You can’t prevent or wait for death [32:13]Aging is so much more than what we look like [38:20]Subscribe to The Lighthouse Letters to hear about Danny’s Peru triphttps://dannyjdotcom.substack.com/Don’t forget to leave us a review and subscribe so you never have to miss an episode!
