    Many people understand parts of this pattern. They know restriction can lead to binging and that shame or body dissatisfaction often follows. They may even see how social media increases the pressure. Yet the cycle still continues.
    Alana explains that body dysmorphia is not simply disliking how you look. It is a perceptual distortion where the body you see in the mirror can feel very different from reality. Compliments, validation, or weight loss rarely resolve it because the distortion exists at a deeper level.
    She also explores how struggles with food often begin as attempts to regain control during stressful or emotionally overwhelming times. Restriction can feel empowering at first, but it creates pressure that eventually leads to binge behavior.
    The episode also looks at how modern environments reinforce this cycle, including neurological conditioning and algorithm-driven social media that intensifies comparison and self-criticism.
