Are All Cannabis Strains Becoming the Same? Watering Myths, RSO & MCT Extracts, Bud Rot & Late Autos | Listener Mail #12
29/08/2026 | 38 mins. It's another Listener Mail episode on High on Home Grown, and this week the community has sent us some fantastic questions covering cannabis genetics, growing myths, extracts, outdoor growing and the eternal battle against the breeder's timeline!
We kick things off with a fascinating question about the explosion of new cannabis crosses and whether we're eventually going to reach a point where every strain starts becoming some generic hybrid, with less of the individuality that made classic cultivars so memorable. We also investigate an old piece of growing advice about leaving water out for 24 hours to "de-gas" it. Is there actually anything to it, or is this simply another bit of grow-room folklore?
We then get into cannabis extracts, including RSO and MCT oil, and discuss whether less traditionally sedating cultivars such as Jack Herer or CBD-rich varieties are worth using for extracts. There's also a big outdoor-growing question about finishing plants late in the season without losing everything to botrytis, covering what growers can realistically do when autumn brings rain, dew, cold temperatures and high humidity.
Finally, we tackle the frustration of a plant that refuses to follow the breeder's schedule! What does it actually mean when an auto advertised as 63 days is still going strong at day 80? We discuss why breeder timelines aren't guarantees, what can influence flowering time, and whether there's anything growers can realistically do when a plant simply needs longer to finish.
And naturally, Lobby Lobster has returned with another vital contribution to science: is shortbread a biscuit or a bread, and why isn't sourdough actually sour?
Another great episode of community questions, growing knowledge, myths, science and the usual High on Home Grown nonsense. 🌱

We also examine the disturbing discovery of synthetic Spice in illicit cannabis gummies, highlighting the huge difference between regulated products and mystery edibles being sold through social media.
Billy takes us over to Germany, where the country's cannabis reforms have created Europe's largest regulated market, while Dr. Margaret brings us the latest large-scale research examining potential cardiovascular risks associated with cannabis use. 📺 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/highonhomegrownWhen to Amend Living Soil, Mould in Coco, Cannabis Growing Myths, Dry Mouth from Edibles & Learning From Mistakes | Listener Mail #11
21/08/2026 | 49 mins. It's another Listener Mail episode on High on Home Grown, and this week we've got a brilliant mix of practical growing questions, cannabis experiences, controversial opinions and, of course, some important biscuit-related business.
We start with a follow-up on amending living soil, asking whether it's actually better to wait until a new seedling has established itself before adding amendments, rather than potentially making freshly amended soil too "hot" for young plants. We also tackle a common concern for coco growers using organic inputs: why does mould sometimes appear in the growing medium before the seedling has even broken the surface? We discuss what might be happening and when growers should, and shouldn't, be worried.
The panel also takes on the question of outdated cannabis growing advice, looking at some of the common tips that have been repeated online for years and asking whether they still hold up with what we know today. We also share some of the biggest mistakes we've made during our own growing journeys and, more importantly, what those mistakes taught us.
Away from the grow room, we discuss dry mouth after taking edibles, whether dose and timing could play a role, and answer Lobby's question about our favourite cannabis extracts. And naturally, following last week's Jaffa Cake controversy, we return to the subject of biscuits, this time discussing everyone's favourite dunkable treats.
FreeNugz also returns with another wonderfully random question: if you could become a master of any musical instrument, which one would you choose and why?
Another relaxed episode full of useful information, personal experiences, community questions and the usual High on Home Grown chaos.

17/08/2026 | 1h 18 mins. This week on High on Home Grown, we bring you another round-up of cannabis news from the UK, Europe, North America and beyond, covering cannabis-related crime, driving, regulation, the developing legal markets and some major new research funding.
Macky: Mum who came to UK for better life killed by driver with cannabis in system | Bristol Live
Smee: Two defendants discharged from Norwich cannabis trial | Eastern Daily Press
Billy: Village Farms reports higher pmslDutch turnover in the weed experiment
John: Senate extends temporary lifeline for hemp THC – and sets up fight with cannabis industry
Margaret: Government of Canada Launches $24 Million Cannabis Research ...
This week we discuss the tragic consequences of driving under the influence, with a case involving a mother whose life was cut short by a driver who had cannabis in his system. We also look at the Norwich cannabis trial and what the discharge of two defendants means for the case.
Billy brings us news from the Netherlands, where the developing regulated cannabis experiment continues to provide an interesting real-world test of what happens when production and supply are brought into a controlled system. Meanwhile, John looks across the Atlantic at the ongoing fight over hemp-derived THC products in the United States, while Dr. Margaret brings us some much more positive news from Canada with a major new investment into cannabis research.
Another packed episode of cannabis news, regulation, science, crime and plenty for the panel to get stuck into.

📺 YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/highonhomegrownOrganic CalMag, Outdoor Defoliation, Reusing Super Soil, Bud Formation & The Great Jaffa Cake Debate | Listener Mail #10
14/08/2026 | 36 mins. It's another Listener Mail episode, and this week we've got a great mix of practical growing questions, organic growing, plant biology and, naturally, some completely unnecessary but extremely important debates!
We discuss the best ways to deal with a calcium issue in an organic grow, including which amendments can help and how to avoid throwing unnecessary nutrients at your soil. We also look at why some cannabis strains begin forming and stacking buds much earlier than others, and what genetics, flowering behaviour and plant structure have to do with it.
There's also a great discussion about outdoor defoliation, with growers debating whether removing leaves throughout flower is beneficial for airflow or whether the plant should simply be left alone to make and use its own energy. We also tackle the question of how to reuse and re-amend super soil after a grow without constantly paying to have it professionally tested, and what growers can look for themselves when deciding what their soil needs.
And because this is Listener Mail, we couldn't possibly finish without answering the really important questions. Is a Jaffa Cake actually a cake or a biscuit? Which fictional universe would the panel live in for a week? And, perhaps most importantly, who taught the first teacher?
Another relaxed episode full of growing knowledge, community questions, questionable philosophy and the usual High on Home Grown nonsense.
